He doesnt have to get a starting gig. But if some one makes him an offer with a CHANCE to compete for the starting job, he takes it.

McCoy only stays in DC if the options are.. be a designated backup here , or be a designated backup some place else.

The Redskins could get him some more cash by convincing Eastern Motors to let him shoot some commercials for them.

Wait it wasn't that long ago you were laughing at me when I predicted a crash and burn for Foles. Now who's laughing?

For the record I like Foles, still. I think he is a good guy and he has upside in the right scheme.

I just think it would be funny if he was a Redskin. I'd be amused to see how people in here might change their mind on the guy.

As for his cap number, it is tiny for a QB with starting experience.

Of the teams named, the one that makes sense is Dallas to be honest. Would let them get a backup to Romo and free them up to take another player with the #4 pick, since Jerrah is deluded and thinks Romo can play four more years.

I agree Foles makes sense in Dallas.

Foles is also from Austin, Texas. He's a good kid, a born-again Christian, and has his head screwed on straight, which is saying a lot considering others out there.

I'll never change my mind. Like Kevin Kolb I never understood the love for this guy. He had one great season which was more a product of an innovative offense the league hadn't seen before. Gee where have I seen that movie before? Finally his lack of ability caught up with him and he is on the road to Bubby Bristorville.

Do you remember AJ Feeley too?

Foles BASE salary for 2016 is $1.75 million, he has a $1 million bonus pro rate which the RAMS would have to pay off in order to trade him.

He has a $6 million dollar bonus tied to being on the RAMS roster.. this too would go away if traded by the Rams. So his cap hit to us would be $1.75 million in 2016.

in 2017 he has a base salary of $10.75 million and a roster bonus (again tied to the Rams roster) of $1.5 million.

So in effect he would be a one year rental as a backup for $1.75 million.

The devil is in the details. The Rams wrote his extension in such a way that they could get OUT of the deal if needed.

Given this, I guess go for it. Better to get something than nothing and we need a backup QB.

Dallas would have to give up a draft pick in order to trade for Foles I would think. While I dont see it happening, Washington would only be giving up a QB that otherwise they would be releasing any way.

Flip side is I would be remiss if this happened and I did not mention.. we would have in effect given up 3 first rounders, a 2nd rounder, and two years of pure Oscar worthy drama for....

Nick Foles. :D

One other note on Foles: You may not know, but he and Cousins were once teammates at Michigan State. The other QB, Brian Hoyer, also went pro. Kind of amazing.

Foles transferred to Arizona after his freshman season, for reasons that remain a little unclear, but reportedly had to do with some issues with his family. His dad lived in Arizona and he went back home.

What would be funny is Foles left Michigan State because of Kirk Cousins.

Some have speculated that was the case, actually, but the two appear to be friends and it doesn't seem likely. Hoyer was actually the starter at that time, and these guys were freshmen backups.

Isn't there another Michigan state qb from around that time in the nfl?

Cousins beat him out, that would have a lot to do with it I would think. Look Foles would be OK as a backup but I would never give up a pick for him.

As for the Rams trade 4 years later we have 2 division titles as the Rams are still trying for their first winning season.

Foles is no better than McCoy. Dallas should look at him.

That's not what actually happened. A guy named Connor Dixon beat out both of them to become the backup to Hoyer. They were freshmen and not competing for anything yet. But I know you are not interested in facts.

Now, if you want to speculate and say Foles concluded that he would not be able to beat out Cousins in the future and thus transferred, well, that is what some people think happened. It may be true.

Anyway, the bigger picture issue is, it doesn't really matter. Some guy named Tom Brady had a hard time beating out Brian Griese and Drew Henson at Michigan. He turned out to be pretty good in the NFL.

Also, are you trying to argue the RGIII trade was a good deal for the Redskins?

Yes, the Rams still can't win. But it's not because of that trade. That trade clearly helped the franchise. They can't win because they have had terrible coaching and problems finding and developing a QB. They had some bum named Sam Bradford for much of that time before dumping him off on some sucker.

Of course I'm not making that argument. Just pointing out it was not a Hershel Walker deal that built a dynasty as many had predicted. Also goes to show yet again that building a roster through the draft is worthless if you don't have a good QB.
