What happens when you normally wear white jerseys at home, but decide this is your purple jersey game while it's also Homecoming? Well, I'm sure losing isn't what LSU had in mind.

It's September 30, 2017 in Baton Rouge. Louisiana State University students, faculty, and alumni have been celebrating Homecoming throughout the week. It's a standard night game at home and this has also been designated as a purple jersey game, something the Tigers like to break out against non-conference opponents they feel certain they can beat. Heading into this contest, Coach Ed Orgeron and his Fighting Tigers were 3-1, their lone loss being an out-of-state SEC one to Mississippi State. Tonight's game is in Louisiana and it's Homecoming and it's a Purple Jersey game. Needless to say between that and the Associated Press putting a 25 beside their name, they were feeling a little confident going in.

As for the Trojans, the men of Troy were also 3-1, their lone loss being a season opener at Boise State. They would wind up going 1-1 west of the Mississippi River after a win at NM State. While the Tigers have the daunting task of playing in the SEC's West Division, Troy is dealing with their own fight in the Sun Belt. Both are looking for conference titles, but for this game the only thing that matters is who wins while the conference stuff can wait.

In front of over 99k fans at Deaf Valley, LSU was ready. ...Or perhaps they weren't. Troy got on them early and LSU couldn't get anything going in the 1st Half. The 2nd Half saw things improve, but it would be too little, too late as the Trojans would spoil Homecoming and provide a white jersey victory at Tiger Stadium that the home fans didn't want to see.

Troy would get a bye week, giving them 2 weeks to bask in beating someone while forgetting to focus more on the next opponent, the South Alabama Jaguars who would hand them their 2nd and last loss of the season. After that, the Trojans would get back on plan and win a share of the Sun Belt Championship with Appalachian State, followed by a victory in the New Orleans Bowl against North Texas.

LSU meanwhile got back to work, winning their next 3 games before losing at Alabama and then winning another 3 games to setup their season finale against Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl. Playing their entire season in the South, LSU could only muster a 9-4 record including that bowl loss to the Fighting Irish.

Be careful what you wish for when it comes to Homecoming opponents, you just might get it. Highlights are by HaydenYT.
