App State was like 3 time div II national champ (and have almost knocked off a couple other big name teams since). I think last year they should have beaten Penn State but came just short.

App State's national championships are all in Division I.

My first college football weekend after transferring to Michigan and buying a house 10 miles from Ann Arbor. I watched the game on TV then the wife and me had to go somewhere. It was great to look at all the UM flags with dejected faces in the cars going down I94.

It really wasn't that big of an upset, if you look back in retrospect, because that was only the first in what was to become many instances of fcs schools upsetting fbs schools, and since then, there have been seasons where I saw two fcs schools beat fbs schools in the same week, I believe, or maybe it was some lowly sunbelt team and an fcs school both winning in the same week. NDSU has several wins over good fbs schools

It was the first time that a ranked team lost to a FCS school. It was not the first time that a FBS school lost to a FCS. And I believe it has only happened twice since then, JMU over Va Tech and another one I can't remember.

NO, it wasn't. And I said, IN RETROSPECT. I mean, App St did go on to win another Natl Title and Michigan went on to lose to several more teams and barely stayed in the Top 25.

Michigan was overrated, and as NDSU has proven multiple times since, fcs national championship teams should be given more respect.

No, it's happened more than twice since, unless NDSU is the only team ever to do it, because NDSU has beaten a Top Ten ranked Iowa and a Top 25 KSU.

Yeah, I thought Kansas St was ranked when they lost to NDSU, but why it was significant that NDSU beat them in their first game of 2013, was because KSU finished 2012 in 12th place, they got votes in the 2013 preseason poll and recovered enough during the season to finish getting votes, and then finished 18th in 2014.

So basically, NDSU was probably solely responsible for keeping KSU out of the Top 25 because KSU beat the likes of Texas Tech and Michigan in their bowl game and 3 of their 5 losses were to Top 25 ranked teams and NDSU won the national championship and got more votes in the AP poll than both TT & KSU.
