You should be Dash. 1 year for 1 mil is a great deal for him. He was probably the Caps most consistant D-man since he came over in that deal with Colorado. I know a number of Caps fans will be very upset with GMGM after they see what he signed for...

I guess the only downside is that is likely takes a spot away from a young defensive prospect, but the term and dollar figure are very good.

I think that's a steal!

I thought he did a great job for the Caps last year and of all the guys we didn't re-sign, he was the one I didn't quite understand not bringing back - especially if THAT was the price. He struggled a little bit when he first arrived, but our defense was among the best in the second half of the year and he was a big reason why.

Two seasons in a row Calgary has signed the Capital that got away who I most wanted back. He should help you guys push for a playoff spot and if not (at that price), he might be great deadline trade bait for a high pick.

Thanks for the feedback, ritari and eloco, I'm probably a little jaded due to the fact I saw the Scott Hannan on a pretty bad Colorado team and figured he was pretty much done. I didn't see much of his play with the Caps last season.

I always felt like his play dropped off some during the last few season, but admittedly I really never saw him play a whole lot. I still remember his performance against Forsberg in the '04 playoffs and then again in the '07 playoffs. Completely blanketed him for both series. His '04 series in particular against Peter was one of the most dominant I've ever seen from a Sharks defenseman. I hope he plays well in Calgary.

The reason why the Caps didn't bring Hannan back was because that would really put us with 8 NHL defensemen. If we could have traded a D-man then maybe, but I don't think trading someone would have been that realistic. Schultz was the only one that we could really trade and his value was really low

That's a sweet deal for Calgary. I was hoping the Isles would get him then I remembered that UFA's avoid the Islanders like the plague.

Teams can't have enough depth on D. At that price Hannan is a steal.
