Maybe, but I don't think it will happen. Certainly some circumstances this year and last year, though overall, letting Trotz leave was the dumbest decision this franchise ever made. For this year, I can't remember a more bizarre final two weeks to the season than this one. Kuznetsov was supposed to be the future centerpiece of this team for the next 5-7 years, I'm not even sure he'll be here next season, and that's probably the right call. And I'm saying that as a guy who has a Kuzy jersey and he's been my phone background for like 5 years now. I think we'll see them take a shot with an OV-Backstrom-Carlson centered team the next couple seasons, and it likely doesn't work, but you never know. It will slowly fall off and then we'll spend 3-4 years rebuilding while we go to the arena to see OV chase records.

It's not ideal, but I've sure as hell suffered through worse as a Caps' fan. At the end of the day, they won a Cup. We've gotten to see probably the best goal scorer ever do his thing for what will hopefully be two decades. I'd love to see another Cup someday, but if that never happens, this was all honestly enough and an amazing, thrilling ride.
