Apparently the Panthers are shopping it, has anyone seen what they're asking for it because with Bennett, Reinhart & Ekblad in there all with the potential to be franchise guys I just can even begin to understand why it's being shopped. I mean they're not exactly in win now mode, or do they think they are? So ummm thoughts... Go!

Sorry about the new draft post I just thought this was interesting enough it should have it's own.

They're probably not particularly enamoured with anyone and want to see what the market is for it. I don't think it says anything about them trying to "in now", I doubt that they're shopping it looking to get veteran help on the 3rd line or anything like that. But if someone else really really likes one of those three more than Florida does there might be a deal to be made. Doesn't hurt to find out.

Yeah, they could be looking to get extra picks to build up a youth movement, or a lower first round pick and a good prospect/young player. If they can get someone to overpay for it, it could go a long way to an effective rebuild.

i think it kinda does say they are more or less in now or at least want to get there ... they aquired Luongo ... they are already all about a youth movement (6th best rated young talent as per hockeysfuture)

Id say they are looking for someone maybe coming out of his elc maybe mid 20's (so still youngish) but more established/refined than a fresh draft pick

Tallon probably wants to dupe the Coilers management into doing something loopy

Yakupov + 3rd overall pick for Florida's number 1 pick - Yak is a flight risk to the KHL as it currently stands with the Oil, but you might get Tallon to bite.

Plot Twist, then the Oil pass on Ekblad and draft Draisaitl to replace Yak on the Wing.

I mistyped "win now", but pretty much the same thing.

Right exactly, I think that whatever/whomever they would trade the pick for would have to be a piece that could help them in the future as well.

I could see this

at the draft table Katz, Lowe et al will re-enact the 2012 entry draft game of thrones style

a midget ... sorry ... dwarf ... sorry ... short person ... will play the role of Steve Tambellini and recommend the oilers draft the defenceman ... Ekblad ... he will be laughed at and crude oil will be thrown on him and then he will be mock fired by the boy king, Darryl Katz's son ... and then they will draft a winger

Not to derail this thread, but the Oilers went into this past season hoping to contend for the playoffs, had a terrible season, and no changes have been made to coaching or management. Contrast that to the Canucks who had a good first half, brutal second half, and got rid of both their coach and GM as a result.

caman dash ... you cant expect the Coil to turf their coach AND GM after every bad season they have ... there are only so many monkeys looking for work each year

I actually like a lot of what the Panthers have going...is that weird? Pretty well stocked system going and I think they finally have an owner willing to spend money. Their struggle now is to get guys to, you know, come to Sunrise. In this draft class with no slam dunks, but decent depth, it's not a bad idea. I just don't know if there's anyone at the top of that class that another team is going to trade a lot for.

They're going to need two short people then to finish off the scene so that the Bettman stand-in can announce the pick to a disbelieving audience.

This is something Florida may be interested in doing. Get a former 1st-overall pick, and if he keeps his head on straight, he can be very dangerous. But, he's a big risk of headed back to Russia, like you said. Edmonton is desperate for D, which is why they may bite on this.
