Kap looks EXACTLY like I thought he would. The dude belongs in a shotgun offense. Plain and simple. He just doesn't look like he can scan the field and backpedal at the same time.

Other than that he was just like Alex Smith was the last 6 years: screwed from the get go. The OL is so bad nobody was gonna do very well behind C.

Not saying that's how it'll always be; they've only had 12 days to prepare.

I thought he did well under the circumstances. He did better than Alex Smith at delivering the hot route in the middle of the field when the Saints brought 6 guys. You're right about scanning the field though, needs to get alot quicker. And if he does get quicker watch out. When was the last QB we had that could make that tight throw to Lance Long with that much zip?

It's a matter of reps and gameday experience for Prime. He looked real good out given the circumstances. He made some mistakes out there, rushed a few but made some positive plays with his arm/release and legs(he might need those more often than none).

Our QBs play is dependent on whether our OL remembers what it means in being an NFL OLmen.

I agree with Big, under the circumstances, Kap did okay. IMO, however, Kap is a lot more than a short camp and 160 minutes of pre-season football away from being an NFL caliber starter; which, is just as well because our o'line doesn't appear to be ready for the NFL either.

He didn't look scared. That's really the only plus I saw

He looks really stiff in his body. I still think he's a very Raw talent right now, but he did look like he's improved some things. He could be the exception to the rule sort of like Kevin Durant. A raw player making plays he shouldn't be able to make, but he's going to need at least a year to be ready to start IMO.

I'm absolutely not going to judge whether or not he will make it in the NFL by this game. It was his first ever pre-season game after about a week and a half of practice and no mini-camp or OTA's, on top of all that he's coming from a shotgun based offense to one of the most complicated offenses in the NFL. I'm more than willing to give this guy a chance to develop.

His evasiveness was impressive. There was one 3rd down (although it was called back by an unnecessary block in the back) where the o-line let some people through and he scrambled and picked up the would-be first down.

agree, just what i was thinking while watching. didn't expect big 'stats' anyway, was just wondering how comfortable he'd be? he looked pretty comfortable for a rookie.

I expected him to look like an inexperienced rookie, and that's how he looked.

My expectation will progress with time, but for now I don't expect much.

I liked what I saw given the circumstances. I wanna see him start over Smith ASAP.

I haerd something on CSN Bay Area that Harbaaugh is already considering a quarterback change? That can't be right can it?

What I've heard is there's a QB controversy brewing. I can't imagine Kaep starting right off the gates unless he continually progresses during the remaining preseason games while Smith continues with his usual play.

Still too early to judge the kid. Anyone remember Steve Young? He was just a scrambler, or so many thought. Not to mention, Steve Young didn't even look decent enough during his first string of games taking over for Montana. With time, and with Harbs as his coach, they're going to put a lot of work into this kid and what you'll see is an end product that will be much different from last night.

I certainly hope you're right. I wasn't a big fan of Kap to begin with, but i felt more comfortable knowing that Harbs picked a QB and i certainly have more faith in him to develop a QB than anyone else we have had since at least Norv Turner.

He looked okay playing against 2's, 3's & 4's, but he would get killed playing against 1's; and, with the way our o'line played last night - keep him on the bench until our line has improved. We don't need another AS situation.

Despite the limited practice time, I am sure Harbaugh expected a better showing than what he witnessed. Not all of the poor performance last night can be blamed on a shortened off-season; besides, as a college coach Harbaugh is use to short off-seasons.

That said, I'm sure (okay, I hope) Harbaugh is considering a few changes, and although I would not put QB at top of that list (yet), I am sure the QB is on the list.

O-line is clearly on the top of the list.
QB play is number two on the list.
Defensive tackling needs to be practiced a bit.
Everything else is looking ok IMHO.
Tramaine Brock almost got burned on a deep pass to Meachem but Tramaine Brock will be lucky to make the 54 man roster (Rogers, Spencer, Brown, Culliver, Adams).

I think our OL is much better than they played on Friday. Just give them some time to fully know their assignments and absorb the playbook.

Excellent post, Yosh. I agree.
