Fan lockout?

Of course I live in the DC area, so it's easy to say this with no NHL team here

The owners and players are banking on demand for the product getting pent up. I think the fans are now on that crucial breaking point where it goes from "we miss hockey" to "fuck every last one, this season is lost". That is why there were desperate talks (publicized heavily BTW) to keep the fans hopes alive. As soon as hope for the season starts to diminish, the league has signed the death warrant for smaller/developing markets. The NBA was able to get a deal done before it was too late. They went as long as they could screw around, then finished it. The NHL doesn't appear to have their finger on the pulse of the fans very well, because it's about to find itself walking over its own cliff.

I just started getting into NHL-level hockey three years ago, after several seasons of following minor league (Indiana Ice in the USHL) play. Have probably forked over $300 in merchandise, + another $300 for tix/hotel/meals for my 1st ever NHL game last season (Wild at Blue Jackets, this past Feb) so, needless to say, I'm feeling a bit 'stung' by this current labor nonsense.

That being said, unless the full '12/'13 season gets axed - & we will know that by X-mas IMO - I'll likely be back for more

When I decided to follow the NHL, I made the decision to pick what I hope will prove to be an 'up & comming' squad to follow instead of an established 'powerhouse'.

My 1st team was the Thrashers. - Then they moved on me! Now it's the Wild.

Never had much luck choosing this way before but, hey; why let that stop me?
