Fallout from KC Brawl? Suspensions?

Do you expect any suspensions to be dealt out after the league is finished reviewing the incident? I could see Samardzija being hit with a suspension and possibly missing a start. The only White Sox player who got physical, not that I didn’t love to see it.


Volquez (or whoever was throwing those cheap shots from KC) as well will likely be hit. I don’t see a scenario where visibly throwing punches, even if you miss doesn’t land you a suspension. I don’t think what Sale did warrants much. Not a fan of what Ventura pulled, but fortunately for him, I think being a coward and running off from the incident he created may have saved him. Probably a fine for both. Sale also reportedly was trying to make his way over to the KC clubhouse after the game looking for a fight, but his attempt was unsuccessful as cooler heads prevailed in the Sox clubhouse.


Crazy stuff.


Haven’t seen a White Sox brawl like that since the 06 Cubs/Sox game at The Cell. The worst still has to be the Detroit fight. My lord, that was ugly.

Yup ... Shark and Volquez will definitely be riding some extra pine, IMO. Fines for everyone else. Ventura will be known as a punk-ass bitch in my book from here on out. There's a reason KC is a very unpopular team in the AL and we saw why last nite.

This BS has been brewing with the Rhoidals since the end of last season, and you could tell it was just a matter of time this would happen the way these 2 teams opened the season this year. The Sox were not gonna take any shit from them.

I have no idea what beanstalk Sale was thinking when he intended on paying a visit to KC's locker room.

No real surprise(s) ...

Looks like Sale & Samardzija will each miss a start. Not quite sure why Sale got a suspension. I know he was 'barking' & chewing on an ump during the fracas.

The following players have been disciplined for their actions leading up to and/or during the incident:

• Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura has received a seven-game suspension;
• Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez has received a five-game suspension;
• Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain has received a two-game suspension;
• Royals pitcher Kelvin Herrera has received a two-game suspension;
• White Sox pitcher Chris Sale has received a five-game suspension;
• White Sox pitcher Jeff Samardzija has received a five-game suspension.

All six players also received an undisclosed fine in addition to a suspension. In addition, White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers has received an undisclosed fine.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but I am pleasantly surprised Ventura got hit big with 7 games. Also, it would appear Rodon will get his first start. Which will be interesting.


Also, question… Cain is due to lead off the Royals half of the ninth when the game resumes tomorrow afternoon. He would be eligible to finish that game, correct? Seeing as this game is technically in progress and he is active on the lineup card.
