What to expect: Redskins' defense - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

i hear about a more aggressive scheme but i have to see it first

my main concern on defense is age on the d/line . hatcher 32 cofield and golston 30 bowen 30 . injuries will ruin our shot at doing what we want too . personally , i think bowen is done and i hope geathers can take his spot

my other concern is ryan clark . if he can still play then our secondary will be much improved . i think thomas can slide in to merriweather's spot this season (just a matter of when ) . but if clark isnt "running " things back there then i see us struggling in the secondary and our plans of being more aggressive being shelved

the defense will determine if we are a playoff team or a frustrating also ran

Let's be honest about our defense. One of two things are true with this bunch. 1. Either they can be schematically made to be more productive...........or.........2. We need better guys.

It is possible that improved offensive production will do a lot to help the defense, however if the pattern continues of them not being able to get off of the field, then it won't be the scheme, we'll have to look for different (better) players.

The mark of a good defense is to be able to stop opposing offenses on critical drives. Our defense could not do that last year. Some of it was probably scheme, but most was that we were just piss poor at tackling and we just couldn't cause turnovers. That points to talent. Have we upgraded the talent enough to change the production this year? Maybe. As you also point out, a more aggressive scheme may help, but it may also expose weaker players.

well our 3rd down defense should improve when you have rak, kerri, hatcher, and murphy rushing the passer. There should be no need to blitz all the time with the pass rushers that we have.

Tackling was the major issue last year even the sure tackler in London Fletcher had trouble wrapping players up.
