Wouldnt have been in the playoffs. I think A@M was clearly the best team in the country the last part of the season but with a 4 teamer they wouldnt have made the playoffs. This is why it needs to be 8-16 teams or just go back to the old system of letting bowls invite whoever they want to IMO. If we really want to know who the best team is then 4 teams isnt enough. If we want to know who had the best SEASON overall then we dont need anything other than our eyeballs.

I think 4 teams is fine. I agree about "hot teams" at the end of the season, but keeping the number of teams low preserves some incentive to play well the entire season from start to finish....

can't wait for the playoff to start regardless of the team number.... It's a step in the right direction.

Sure and I can agree with that but isnt the whole point of a playoff to find out who the best team is at seasons end?? A team winning a playoff doesnt tell us if they had the best season ( see college basketball) it just tells us who is playing best at seasons end. If thats the criteria we are using nw then I think you need to have at least 8 teams.

aTm wasn't the best team in the country when they played UF and LSU. The national championship should reward a great season. A whole great season.

Just think, if tOSU wouldn't have been banned, Alabama wouldn't have even been there last night.

I agree with that but thats not even what the system does now. I mean there have been plenty of years since the BCS started where teams were left out of the title game with fewer losses than a team playing in it, with the same number of losses and playing a MUCH better schedule etc. I mean right now we sort of use the eyeball test to determine the 2 teams and then hope for the best. If we really wanted to reward teams for a whole great season we would rely more on the computers or simple W/L record IMO.

Exactly. And does anyone really think tOSU was the better team?? I just think limiting it to 4 teams really hamstrings you in years where 2 teams go unbeaten and 5 or 6 have 1-2 losses etc. Sort of leaves you in the same situation you are now.

ie the years where unbeaten non-AQ teams were left out in favor of 1 or 2 loss BCS teams, years where teams had a much better SOS but were passed up like last years Okie State-Bama debate. There are situations about every other year where we dont actually reward teams that had the BEST seasons, we just pick the teams we think are better.

Notre Dame should be excluded from the BCS until they join a conference, that would help clear up some of the needlessly complicated bs quite a bit.

No. Not in college football. In college football we want to know who the mythical "best team this YEAR was." College football fans hate it when the undefeated team loses. They don't want that one or two loss team to be better at the end of the year. They want to believe pigs fly.

Really??? I dont think we do. I mean that sounds nice in theory but the actions of the voters dont say this to me.

So does the regular season in Div II and Div III have less meaning? I think 8 teams would be a legit play off. 4 is a good starting point, but it needs to expand.

A lot of the problems with CFB go back to the ludicrous fact that there is a preson poll. The ONE sport where a preseason poll is a terrible idea is CFB. Anytime the champion is partially decided by votes cast BEFORE any games are even played is a bad bad idea. I would argue that almost anytime the BCS has had an opportunity to get it wrong they have done so. The years where it was pretty clear cut ( this year as an example) are easy. The years where there has been debate I think the BCS has been wrong way way more often than it has been right.

I would like 6 or 8, but 4 is fine. It's about the WHOLE season, not who got good at the end.

You need a lot of stuff to happen for you if you only lose once, but losing twice...very very tough to get back in the race. That's why ya gotta win, not controlling your own destiny sucks.
