Sorry, I just now realized that Jax drafted a LT in the last draft and that Monroe wasn't in their long-range plans.

I'd be interested in hearing all of our draft geeks weigh in on the 2009 draft. There were four highly regarded tackles -- Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe, Tits McGee and The Blindside.

I got to give the Ravens front office credit. I didn't watch their game against Buffalo, but I figured Harbaugh was throwing their OL under the bus to deflect some of the criticism from their QB. It was legit, and they were proactive about fixing what they considered as a flaw in their roster. it makes me jealous seeing teams that are run that way

Schefter is reporting it's a couple of late rd picks (4-7).

How dare you not have a handle on the Jaguars. ESPN is like Jags depth chart 24/7 with the occasional Tebow or Arod story. You cannot escape them...they've got a stranglehold on the national media.

It's true. They're covered more than the Lakers.

The top 3 were supposed to be dominant players. Didn't quite work out that way, but 2 of the 3 are at least good.

Jason Smith-Mostly has been a bust. He was an elite athlete coming out of Baylor. Ran a fast 40, benched a ton, etc. Wasn't as good a blocker though and played RT a lot, but couldn't really succeed there either.

Eugene Monroe-The best of the bunch, in that he has at least evolved into a good LT, which is what all of them were drafted for. He's better at pass blocking than run blocking, but he's not bad there. Solid player, and Baltimore once again makes a good move. Ozzie Newsome > everyone not named Ozzie Newsome.

Andre Smith-Was at one point considered the best tackle in the draft, but some weight and attitude issues dropped him. Has evolved into a terrific RT, though likely will never be the LT he was considered. Overall, glad to have him.

Michael Oher-Was a solid player in college. They got good value when they picked him. He's been a solid, though maybe slightly overrated player as a pro. Better RT than LT.

I could be wrong, as following the draft is not my life, but I though most "pundits" figured A.Smith to end up being a RT at the NFL level?

Either way, he's been good when healthy.

Smith was projected to be a RT for the Bengals, but few teams draft a RT in the top 10. If you're taken in the top 10, you're expected by most teams to play LT, though that philosophy is slowly changing I think.

You are right in that aspect, but I think the trend has changed due to the rookie wage scale keeping the salaries in line with top picks.

You can now take a RT or whoever early on because you wont' be paying them Sam Bradford money any longer.

Agreed. With the rookie scale, positions like Guard and RT can be taken higher.
