My thoughts exactly. For me, it's simple math. They play 16 games. It is a brutal game to say the least. 12-4 is better than 9-7 no matter how you slice it. Winning the division is very important, but winning games is more important because HELLO...!

:suds: It's like when my Seahawks won the division at 7-9, sure we won the division so we deserve a playoff spot, but NO WAY in hell should we have hosted a playoff game with that record... We should a played that wildcard game @ New Orleans ... Seeding should always be about how many wins you have, regardless....

2010.
(1)ATL (13-3)
(2)NO (11-5)

(6)SEA (7-9) @ (3)CHI (11-5)
(5)PHI (10-6) @ (4)GB (10-6)
-----
NO was 9-3 to 8-4 over CHI in conference.
GB had HTH vs PHI.
Division winners in BOLD.

The Saints would have been the 2-seed with a bye instead of a 5 traveling to play a team that was under .500.

The AFC would have been this:
(1)NE (14-2)
(2)PIT (12-4)

(6)KC (10-6) @ (3)BAL (12-4)
(5)IND (10-6) @ (4)NYJ (11-5)
-----
IND had HTH vs KC.

There is no emoji for disagreeing without giving a "facepalm" I cannot give you a "facepalm" for your well thought out ideas. But I do disagree. Seahawks won the division and deserve to host against a wildcard team.

Still don't understand the logic....if anything....that Seattle/NO playoff game clearly illustrates why division winners shouldn't simply host playoff games.

You'll get the cornholes who say, "Seattle won the game...so, they done proved they shoulda hosted." I don't subscribe to that bullshit.

Certain people are super fascinated with a division winner. It makes no sense to me. Winning the division is very important because it gets the team in the playoffs. That's as far as I'm going. If that division winner, after tie breaking procedures (head-to-head, conference record), is 5th or 6th then that's where they'd be seeded.

At least one wildcard had a better record than a division winner 14 of 17 years since the 8 division format was created.

The one league that ultimately does it right is the NBA. They changed their format in 2015. They've actually had division winners seeded 6th and 7th and to my knowledge there was no rioting in the streets. The NBA's playoff format is perfect. The NFL should take note.

NBA plays best of series, if they played one and done my guess is there would be complaints.

I don't know Phil...as manster say's,a series gets each team home games, which is world different than one and done. I think your complaint is better served on the baseball board.

The 2015 NBA playoffs.
(1)*GS (67-15) vs (8)NO (45-37)
(4)*POR (51-31) vs (5)MEM (55-27)

(2)*HOU (56-26) vs (7)DAL (50-32)
(3)LAC (56-26) vs (6)SA (55-27)--This is why we have the current NBA format. Even with a 'best-of' there were complaints. They changed the playoff format the next season.
*division winner

Today, it would've been:
(1)*GS (67-15) vs (8)NO (45-37)
(4)MEM (55-27) vs (5)SA (55-27)

(2)*HOU (56-26) vs (7)DAL (50-32)
(3)LAC (56-26) vs (6)*POR (51-31)

lol, you're definitely entitled to your opinion, thanks for the no face palm emoji ! But in my opinion it just seems wrong for a 7-9 team that's not even .500 to host a game when the opponent is 11-5 and didn't win there division because at the time it was just a way tougher division... It ended up being a dam fun game to watch, but I just think we should a been on the road in that game, it just felt, wrong....

Life isn't fair. The premise that "win your division and you host" isn't always going to seem fair but it should not be revised because the wildcard team didn't like it that year.

Patriots finished in a 3-way tie one year and had beaten both teams that they were tied with. Did not go to the playoffs because of a 3-way tiebreaker. Not fair that year but it's the rules!
