I know Pitt hasn't won the series yet but I expect them to finish off SJ in the next 2 games at least.

There are a couple respectful post about the Pens by this group of Flyers fans but holy shit is it great to see the others desperate attempts to discredit the Pens in any way they can to make themselves feel better.

Enjoy!

Miscellaneous Playoff Discussion Part III: This Is Our Nightmare. - Page 10 - HFBoards
Those are actually reasonable comments by Flyer fans. HFB is a pretty good board. I love their History of Hockey Forum. Nice thing about that board is that you could go there, root for your team, and not have to worry about the regs being all butthurt because none of their teams made the playoffs.

I am not a member there but I do read a lot of posts and I do agree, it seems like a good bunch generally. I just couldn't help but share that thread because I enjoy seeing the worst of fans meltdown in envy with signs of denial. At the same time, I wanted to mention how respectful many of the same group reacted to the Pens success so far.

No disrespect to tHoop, but you have much higher level hockey discussions on that forum. Won't name names, but I just had a "conversation" with a Flyer fan on the Hoop's Flyers board who was trying to bash the Pens, and all he could do was make fun of our logo and call Sid, "Cindy".

Yeah that is the type of poster I enjoy fucking with the most if I feel like being a dick. Now that you mentioned it, I don't think even 1 Flyers poster called him "Cindy" in that thread I posted? There was some hate for Sid but it got replies from level headed Flyer fan posters that weren't into trashing him just to be dicks.

As someone who occasionally posts on HFB, you don't really feel like posting unless you have something substantial to add.

Just found who you had that "conversation" with and I am not surprised. That guy is a fucking dipshit and likes to act like a diva. You know people like him are killed with kindness so you handled him well!:thumb:

Thanks Gooch! that was entertaining! A lot of it came across as bitter rivals rationalizing how they think the future of this franchise is going to trend down after the season. Not to mention their abject horror at the Pens possibly lifting silver in June. The latter I can understand, the former I find to be wishful thinking.

I read how there is the idea/hope?:heh: that Sheary, Rust, Kuhnhackl and Murray won't be able to maintain this level of play beyond the immediate future, and that they will "come back down to Earth", and the Pens have "captured lightning in a bottle". Or, that the game the Pens employ under Sullivan is "a gimmick". While i can appreciate the possibility that regression may happen to some of them, and there is always the unknown, especially when it comes to injuries, this outcome seems somehow unlikely, because, to me, this has all been made possible by Sullivan and his experience with the young players. He put them in situations where they are playing to their strengths. And not just the young players, but all of them.

An encouraging thought is that there is still another wave of talent that is waiting behind the other young players. Scott Wilson, Daniel Sprong and Oskar Sundqvist already have made their debuts. Sprong's early chance this season under Johnston didn't work the way it was hoped, but the experience he gained by doing it will benefit him in the long run because he is still only 19. Wilson arguably looked liked the best of the youth in the regular season before he was hurt, and Sundqvist appears to be the 4th line C after this season. Would like to see Cullen come back, but I doubt he does.

This youth will give the Pens relatively inexpensive, but impact quality depth for the immediate future as they become RFA's in the coming years. Combine that with the top six being locked up, along with a top four of Letang, Dumoulin, Maatta and Daley, and this current core is locked in for at least the next two years.

I'm sure there will be plenty of discussion about what the future for this team is after the completion of the finals. IMO, the future has never looked better for the Penguins. That may be easy to say with them one win away from the Cup, but there is plenty of supporting evidence that points to this current group trending up.

Sid probably filled tCup with hater tears before he drank from it.

Most misdirected hatred toward a major professional athlete I think i've ever witnessed. I was around to witness the barbs and insults that were hurled at Lemieux, and most of those were done by the Canadian press, because no one else had a voice back then sans internet. That was baffling to me back then, much like the hate spewed over Sid.

The hate that is directed towards a guy who couldn't be a better ambassador for the game of hockey. I mean, who would be a better one in the NHL, currently? Patrick Kane just got over a very embarrassing sexual assault case, and he's probably the most gifted offensive talent in the game, right now. Stamkos is beloved in Canada, and if he played for a larger market, maybe he would be the torch bearer of the league, but really... who?

If you hate someone who never hurt you, then it's usually out of jealousy. I don't blame people for being jealous of Sid. I might be jealous of Sid myself if I weren't a Penguin fan.

Funny thing is I don't blame Flyers fans or any NHL fans with the hate for Pittsburgh because I have seen plenty of the idiots out there that just talk shit when the Pens are playing well. Those Flyers fans in that thread didn't say anything I wouldn't expect from any rival teams fans but I wont ever pretend its not GLORIOUS to read them squirm in misery. I would expect them to feel the same way if the Flyers were in the Pens shoes...but they aren't so SCREW IT!!!

No, they didn't and you are of course correct. I just didn't agree with some of their hopeful shadenfreude after the season ends of how they expect this group of players to not be able to put this all together, again. I personally think that this is just the beginning, or maybe, A New Hope

Hey, that makes it that much sweeter if/when those same players prove them wrong!

Flyers are actually in the same spot we were in last year. Got in as a WC2, lost to the President's Trophy winning team in the 1st round, couldn't score, etc. Difference is that the Flyers are way more optimistic about what they did this year than how we felt about how we did last year. I think that goes to show the difference between Sid & Giroux. Sid had more pressure on him to win a 2nd Cup than Giroux has on him to win a 1st Cup. We'll see how the Flyers do next year, maybe they could do what we did, doubt it tho, I don't think they have proper leadership yet.

I don't know if it's leadership that they need. I think what it really comes down to is what it has always come down to with Philadelphia essentially since Hextall, and that is their goal-tending. Mason, while gifted in his own right,... well, I have no faith in that guy to lead them through four rounds and 16 wins. I just don't see it in him. The flyers are loaded with prospects, and Ghost looks like he is a future top pair, and power play specialist. It still comes down to their net minder, IMO.

As it stands, now.. the team to beat in the division next season for the Pens will be Washington. And boy will they have a very large axe to grind.

Can't wait :couch2:

I guess I didn't think their big name players (Giroux, Simmonds, & Voracek) showed up for the playoffs this year. Only guy that seemed to show was Brayden Schenn.

Not saying their star players can't comeback strong next season. They're in a very similar situation to what we were in last season & we did provide them with a model to turn things around. IDK if the Flyers want to model themselves after the Pens tho. Seems like their hatred for us is stronger than their desire to win a Stanley Cup.

We've now gone 3 consecutive decades winning the Cup!

Flyers have gone 3 consecutive decades without winning the Cup!

Is it still a rivalry?
