Who do you like better in a keeper league and in a redraft league for this year and why. Treff I know you like Eifert but I would love to hear your reasoning again even though I know you have stated it before.

I would think they're so close that it really doesn't matter. Personal preference plays a big part here.

I go ebron here. Greshem is still there so eifert is a low end TE in the first place. If I am going low end I would want the higher ceiling.
So let's bring back the mystery box!!

Foot, For me, in a redraft this isn't even a question, Eifert is the guy who will be putting up at least a few points each and every week, possibly having some big weeks mixed in there, easily a guy you'd want on the team in case of injury to your starter, or at minimum your bye week replacement. Ebron won't be a big part of the gameplan until later in the season, and even that is assuming he's a quick study of the game and the gameplan.
Dynasty however, that's where I'd have them about even. IF Ebron can be this next big thing, possibly the the next Graham or whatever..I know you think he's a virtual shoe in to be even better which is just crazy talk, but i digress..

Lets look at the few things we actually do know about both..since we obviously can't compare how Ebron's game will translate vs how Eiferts has thus far, quite yet..
COmbine numbers
Eifert 40 yd dash--4.68
Ebron 40yd--4.6
Bench-225lbs
Eifert 22
Ebron 24
Broad jump
Eifert 119
Ebron 120
Wonderlic
Eifert 23
Ebron 16
Eifert also completed all other aspects of the combine, while Ebron did not..making me wonder why, what's he hiding?
By the way, Eifert had excellent vertical (35.5), and an impressive 4.32 shuttle.
On their official NFL Draft Profile pages, Eifert ranked out in the third best tier, Ebron ranked in the fifth..basically the difference between what they expect to be a perenial Pro Bowler, and the average run of the mill starting player.
So, the measurables are so close, it's hard to give on an edge, but obviously the NFL scouts think much more highly of Eifert.

How about college careers??

Eifert in three years at Notre Dame, had 140 catches, 13.1 yards a clip, and 11 TD's (2, 5, 4)
Ebron in three years at UNC had 112 catches at a 16.1 clip, but only 8 TD's (1,4,3)
I like the guy who finds the end zone more often..but that's just me. BTW, NOtre Dame was 64th in the nation offensively, UNC 47th..neither really had a big edge in offensive systems which might skew the numbers.

Both were drafted in the first round, by teams that didn't really need another TE..Ebron 10th to the lIons who have Pettigrew, and Eifert 21st to the Bengals who have Greshem..so it can be said that both teams think they have a very nice find in their new TE's, or they would've gone with a position of need in the 1st round.

Eifert is 6-6, 250
Ebron is 6-4 250

So what does it all mean Basil??

It tells me that Ebron is not at all hands down better than Eifert, not in measurables, not in production, and definitely not in experience.
Give me the guy who's going to produce this year, as well as the future, instead of the guy I have to wait for, who may or may not be as good, or better.
I go Eifert in both cases..but in the dynasty it could depend on who your current TE is, if you have the time to wait, and if you've just got that man crush hardon for the guy..take Ebron, it's close enough that it's probably worth the gamble.

But it is not like eifert had a good season at all last year, so both seem to be a gamble low end TE or a bench TE... Not sure about you but i would rather take the risk with Ebron, who is on the better passing team, and one that has not stated that they plan on running more..

If it was kyle rudolph or ebron i would go rudolph, but at least rudolph has proven something!!!

as a low end TE, the question is who is more likely to be a top end TE, and to me that is Ebron...

Thanks for basically proving what I was saying. .Rudolph, rookie three years ago. . Crap season.. next year meh.. last year finally some promise (when he played). Eifert, rookie last year, little promise at the end, likely some improvement this year, next year? Probably pretty dammed good. Ebron.. rookie this year. . Likely crap season, hopefully some promise late.

BTW.. Rudolph isn't an option in this question so bringing him up was pointless, other than helping me prove that TE's need a year or 2 to be fantasy relevant.

Milk, do you realize you are anointing the rookie and degrading Eifert because of his rookie season?

Pettigrew is no slouch, so you can't give me the Gresham factor....mystery box system, okay, but choosing rookies this year because rookies last year struggled might be tricky, IMO.

Even if you do go that route. .Pettigrew just signed a 4 year extension this past offseason..Gresham is a free agent in 2015

Maybe i missed on the point i was making... If there are 2 unproven players, or 2 similar players in any aspect, i would rather take the younger player or rookie who is believed to have the higher ceiling...

I like mystery boxes, especially when the other player in question is seen to be low end too...

If ebron has any good games early on his Value will sky rocket... Much more than Eifert would if they have a similar start of the season...

BTW: i define value by how much he is worth in trade to your league... another way to say that is how a player is perceived in your league... I can guarantee ebron has a longer leash than Eifert does to the fantasy owner...

Them take him in B league and trade him to Foot... he's about the only guy I know of that thinks Ebro had such a high ceiling.
Also. .Eifert was just as touted last year, how good he should be, how great he can be. .only reason is perceived that people think Ebron has a higher ceiling is that he's the new flavor of the month. Period, not even debatable. Everyone forgets yesterday's next big thing if it didn't happen immediately.
