Oh come on. The Islanders?

Well it's just the negotiating rights. I highly doubt Erhoff will want to play there after tasting success in Vancouver.

I'd be surprised if Ehrhoff actually signs with the Islanders. The Islanders do appear to be moving in the right direction with a lot of young players, but they're not quite there yet. Maybe they'll throw enough money at him though who knows.

they will likely knock his socks off with $$$
the Isles need to hit the floor anyways, and the tried hard for hamhuis last summer
($6.5m, I think jstew had mentioned) and came up empty.

I originally thought he'd get the lion's share of Rafalski's $6m from Detroit,
but it wouldn't surprise me if he just took a jackpot and called it a day.

Just out of curiosity, if we were to somehow find a taker for Ballard and his $4.2m cap hit, how much more could we potentially offer Ehrhoff if he gets to Friday?

The Nucks should try and trade Ballard back to Phoenix, where he started off so promising, to help get them to the cap floor and bring Christian back.

I hope that's what they don't do though.

sounds like Ballard is staying for sure (as sure as that can get)

Gillis really believes that he cant be that bad another year ... and the injuries really killed him in 10-11. I also would like to see what Ballard can do with more than 0:12 seconds of power play ice time per game next year. Thats what he got this past year. I think he can rqack up some points because the true power play quarterback for the Canucks wasnt Ehrhoff it was Henrik coming off the half boards. Ehrhoff wasnt even the guy carrying the puck up ice on the pp at the end of the year.

good luck to Ehrhoff ... i say it will take 6.5 per season to make him sign with the Isles. He earned his UFA rights ... why would he not go to market July 1 especially with Detroit out there looking for a dman

They will have to overpay to convince him to play for that team in that arena ... and no there are no guarantees the vote on the new arena funding passes. Thats a huge leap of faith for Ehrhoff and his agent to take, especially in only 48 hours.

This is the Isles "Reggie White moment" ... can they sign a bigger name unrestricted free agent with their reputation

It can easily also become their "Brian Campbell moment" ... overpaying for a guy who is not worth even 6 million per season in order for him to get on board, only to have all your young players demand big dollars after their entry level contract ends
