Milk, man you need more than opportunity to be good in fantasy. You have to be good so the coaches keep giving you the ball. Willing to give the ball and giving it are two very different things.

I think you guys are missing my point.

Every player is different, every scenario is different. I am not saying any rookie will be great. But to say they won't be good because it doesn't happen often or even ever is not really valid.

Especially when we talk about fantasy since there is a huge difference between being fantasy good and real life good.

All you need to be fantasy good is the opportunity of play and the teams willingness to give you the ball.
And if you think a rookie has this opportunity more than a veteran, then he is definitely worth the gamble.
Sometimes rookies just walk into a situation where the team needs them. Usually they walk into a situation where the team can be more patient.
There are some rookies out there this season who have walked into a scenario where the team needs them more than the average rookie.

All I am saying is not all rookies are created equally and giving all rookies the rookie tag and fear is very dangerous.

Actually it is more dangerous to assume a rare exception and swing and miss on a guy than it is to play it safe and go with a more proven option. You want to take a chance on him in the final couple rounds of a redraft.. absolutely, go for it, he's worth that risk. But like in Foot's case of possibly dealing Gronk for him. . Or anything similar where your giving up proven top guys for nothing but potential? No, not even close.

And I don't want to speak for anyone else. . But in my case, I'm not missing your more punt as much as I'm simply dismissing it due to the high probability that it isn't gonna happen

Okay - I think Foot is saying that Ebron can be, essentially, Anquan Boldin (181 FF pts in his rookie season), and the TE label should be ignored because he won't necessarily line up there.

(Except they played and started an equivalent number of games in college, and Boldin had 22 TDs while Ebron had 8.)

I guess, but I think I am more saying that if you played in a league where you had to start a TE in the line up and one guy was allowed to use Anquan Boldin there he would have a great advantage since Boldin would probaly finish 2nd or 3rd amoiunst all TEs.

Also Wil, Ebron's college Qb was not great so i am not worried about the TDs cause there just were not a lot of oppurtinities for them. Ebron basically got doubled and tripled since he was the whole offence and yet he still broke Vernon Davis's recs and yardage record even with the extra attention on D.

Jimmy Graham had 357 yards and 5 touchdowns in his rookie year.

How often do rookie tight ends do anything special?

He didn't start until Shockey got hurt and then a few games in he got hurt. Not having him had a impact on the Seattle game. We probably would have won if we had him, and definitely if we had Ivory healthy.

I don't know if Ebron's QB was great at creating receiving TDs, but somebody in North Carolina was (and it wasn't Ebron). The Tarheels threw 56 TDs in Ebron's two years as a starter - he caught 7 of them.

But I think I see what you're saying. The 20th-best WR would be a top-5 TE, so you could take advantage of the TE label and kinda get some extra value if you think Ebron will put up 20th-best WR numbers or better.

Those are some eye opening stats for sure Will.

FOR ALL THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT EBRON'S BIG DROP NUMBERS HERE IS AN INTERESTING INSERT FROM AN ARTICLE ON BLEACHER REPORT!

Drops are always going to be part of the equation with Eric Ebron. But that doesn't make him unusual among big, talented receivers.

Pro Football Focus (subscription required) tracks receiver drops religiously, and some of the names that appear with the most drops are some of the best receivers in the game:

Brandon Marshall
Vincent Jackson
Dez Bryant
A.J. Green
Andre Johnson
Calvin Johnson

All of those top-shelf talents finished in the top 10 in total drops in 2013. Calvin Johnson, Marshall and Bryant finished in the top 10 in 2012 as well.

The most direct comparable player to Ebron, Saints hybrid tight end/receiver Jimmy Graham, had an ugly 15 drops in 2012.

Those players make enough positive plays to more than compensate for the ones that inexplicably slip through their hands. That is what the Lions are hoping for with Ebron.

Detroit fans, not to mention Ebron's fantasy football owners, are simply going to have to clench their teeth and grimace with the drops. Hopefully he can be like Bryant or Marshall or teammate Johnson and erase those stains with enough shining moments. Ebron certainly has that potential.

Here is the link.

You do realize all those guys are targeted twice as often as the next guy right? 10 dropes on 150 or so targets is a pretty nice percentage. Whoever write that had his rose colored glasses fully functional during his "research"

If you have more TDs than drops you can have all the drops you want.

I'm very interested to see who pulls the trigger first, Spiller or Foot.. and how early they both think they need to go to beat the other to the punch.
Wouldn't be shocked to see him undrafted in the other though.
