I was thinking we may be swapping firsts with Miami in order to make a trade with the Rams. We trade # 8 to the Rams for #15 and our 2nd rd pick back and the Rams draft their Qb.

That would be one hell of a play on Howie's part.
Howie is sweeping out the mess than Chip left behind. It's unbelievable what a mess that crud left us with.
If we get a #2 pick we have a very good chance to change this team in a hurry. OL and defense are fairly deep and we can use both.

Carroll should come at good value because he only played half the year. It's hard to find CBs. And I'm not sure if Rowe is better at CB or S yet. Keeping Carroll around should give us a good bit of flexibility the rest of the offseason and through the year while Schwartz figures out what to do with the secondary here.

By most accounts all we are getting is a late round pick guys. No swapping of firsts or anything major. This is not a fantasy. We're getting a team to assume an enormous free agent contract. That's what we're getting--cap room going into free agency.

we don't know what the actual trade is yet. Is it a trade of firsts?? or a 3rd and a 4th? Lets wait and see. Saving money is great - but only if it puts better players on the field. We saved money during Reid's tenure a TON without actually improving the players on the field. I just think 'good' moves are being sold as great monuments when we don't even know what we are getting. And even if we save money - we need to wait and see what we actually DO with that money. Butt kissing just a bit premature imho.

And while Chip really made a mess of things, it was mostly because of the studs he let go.

I think people forget just what a mess Chip inherited and how bad of a state Reid left the team - especially the defense.

If we lose Matthews or Murray for nothing or a late round pick - I think that would be a major mistake. I'd rather go into the season with them both.

Uh no. If we can undo the Alonso/Maxwell signings (Maxwell is overpaid and Alonso is not needed) it's a win-win. That we get anything is gravy.

Again, it has been reported by Miami media that it is a late-round pick, or late round picks (maybe two, one for each guy). But it ain't no high pick.

Sit back and enjoy the ride on this one. Howie doesn't make this move unless he has something big up his sleeve. You don't trade these two guys just to bring back Nolan Carrol and sign Tahir Whitehead and free up a few sheckles on the salary cap. Now some of this may be shifting 2017 and on from Maxwell to Cox but if this was just about that then Alonso doesn't go in the deal. There is more to this. Next few days should be fun.
