why did Dumbo not trade Brown so he could have kept Justin Williams? I am curious what the posters think of this.

Answer your question?

=)~~

No one (right now anyway) will be taking that contract off the Kings hands for what is essentially a bottom 6 player.

Honestly I don't miss Williams, it was time for him to go. He is a possession beast but he was in decline as well the last 3 years:

2012-13 (Lockout Year): 33 points/48 games (56 points over a full 82 game season) .688 PPG
2013-14: 43/82 .524 PPG
2014-15: 41/81 .506 PPG

I like the guy and he will forever be loved by Kings fans, but he did exactly what he was supposed to do when the Kings acquired him and you could see in subtle ways he was not as effective as a few years earlier. It was simply time to part ways and I wish him well in Washington (but no Cup - the Caps can eat it).

Back in 2012, Brown hurt his MCL in the playoffs. He has never been the same since. That being said, A brown, Williams comparison, there really isn't any. Williams will contribute on the score sheet and has better puck possession skills. We all know how clutch Williams is as well.

To me, Williams would bring more to the table now.

Williams was/is a much better fit with Kopitar than Brown is. Brown belongs on the 3rd line.

Just my .02 worth

Brown hurt his knee in Game 6 against SJ in 2013, but he was in decline prior to that. Not minimizing his injury, but it does take some time to recover from those. I remember Michal Handzus was worthless the year after he came here because he had ligament surgery but was overall solid the remaining 3 years in LA. Brown did not have surgery and rehabbed it instead. Three years later this should be a non issue, it wasn't a career ending injury like Moore or Pronger or Laperierre or Neely.

And Brown does belong in the B6 but his price tag puts him in Mike Richards territory; you can't have a B6 player making almost $6 million a season. This is a serious problem that is going to be very hard to get out of and if the Kings can't, it's arguably one of the worst contracts Dumbo has written in his career, not just in LA (and he has had some doozies here).

I agree about Williams, but the team also needed to get younger. I liked him, he will be a favorite here but it was time to cut ties. He hasn't been that great in Washington so far but they acquired him for the POs, we will see if he still has that Mr. Game 7 mojo.
