The MVP...
That first period pretty much sums up the Sens season so far. Outplay the other team but they still end up losing. That's when you know you're a bad team...
Sens are playing a solid game so far. Good play by Hiller and poor finishing on the Sens (what else is new?), makes it a Ducks lead.
It's looking more and more like the Sens might get their hands on one of Landeskog, Larsson, Couturier or Nugent-Hopkins.
Seriously it is a different feeling to be looking at top draft prospects. The Sens haven't had a top 5 pick since Chris Phillips in 1996. I find myself paying more attention to junior hockey, LOL. It's about the only silver lining for me as a Sens fan this hockey season.
If the Sens actually had a couple finishers then they probably wouldn't be where they're at right now. They've played well in a lot of games and lost because of the lack of goal scoring.
It is pretty unfamiliar territory for us Sens fans though as you mentioned. It's not like the Sens have been sucking for a decade or anything like that. They've been a top team for as long as I can remember.
Anyway, I've been looking at the junior ranks a lot as well Kenny. Seems like the only thing to get excited about now. I do want Landeskog but he'll go first overall I think and the Sens won't finish in last I don't think. I guess they could win the lottery but the odds are slim to none. The guy I've been looking at the most is Nugent Hopkins. I think that kids upside is incredible.
The NHL has a lottery system so if we're in the bottom 3 or 4 we have a shot at #1.
I'd love to get Landeskog too. After him I think Larsson is the best prospect but I just can't see Ottawa taking another d-man right now (even if they probably should if they have the chance). If they can't get Landeskog, I wouldn't mind seeing them trade down, if they can, and get Ryan Strome around the 8 spot. Might be able to get another late 1st or 2nd for that. Strome has really nice upside from what I've seen.

Boy, would that cause me come seriously conflicted feelings.
I was flipping back and forth between this one and the Jackets game and I thought the Sens looked pretty solid, and Hiller was RIDICULOUS. I did see a few plays where the Sens did the right thing at first and then didn't follow up. Kinda like they've checked out, whereas earlier in the year they might have crashed the net after a perimeter shot.
They played pretty hard but they just can't get into the scoring areas and when they do, they don't finish. Hiller was good but the Sens didn't test him enough from the scoring areas.
Michalek is really impressing me lately though. He was by far the best Senator on the ice...by far. He was the only one who actually tried to drive to the net when he had the puck. If he can avoid those knee injuries then he should stick around.

I agree 100%. He's looking like he was at the start of last year over the last 5-6 games. He's still young and the further he gets from this most recent injury, the better he should get. Keep him around.
I was disappointed to see Regin as a scratch, but when you're losing on a nightly basis, nothing the coach changes can be looked at as off limits.
Overall a good game.
