I actually did see him a few times, I like to watch some of the PAC 10 offenses. I also did a little more research when we picked him. The guy was universally likes and considered a 3rd round talent. We got him in the 5th.

Maualuga was a 1st round talent. We got him in the 2nd. But that's because he had a 4th round mental capacity.

I wouldn't consider that a steal.

Everybody thought it was at the time. You can't base anything off of what happened before, or you can't consider anybody those guys steals. All you can go by is what you know and read. Nobody knows who is a steal or a bust till the games are played.

I read that Marvin Jones has a small build and that he might now have home-run speed. Too little to be physical and too slow to be an outside threat - Sounds like a 5th rounder.

He's been pretty widely considered one of the steals of the draft, but you're entitled to an opinion. I was just pointing out, that based on the criteria at this point, he was predicted to be a 3rd or 4th and we got him in the 5th and is thus, a steal.

BTW -- One thing I notice about the draft these days. There are more players with "third-round grades" than could ever possibly be drafted within the first 3 rounds.

I don't think we'll see much of Marvin Jones this season. The Bengals like to bring WR's along slowly.

Sanu may be thrust into the position however, simply because we lack the experience at WR other than slot receivers, he should get lots of targets with Green drawing safety help on double teams.

Excellent point. The later you get in the draft, the narrower the gap gets in talent level.

Imo, we should start clearing out the veterans so we can get everyone drafted in the 4th round and later on the roster. And if we can't manage to clear out enough veterans, we should consider putting one of the 1st rounders on the PS since they aren't steals.

I suppose sooner or later we'll draft someone in the 5th round that is good..... Hasn't happened in a decade - It would be about time. I just think it's a reach to believe that Jones will contribute anytime soon. As Dan pointed out, Marvin sometimes likes to bury rookies.
