Take your pick. ASmith, KCarter, DKlingler, DPollack, JCopeland, this list could go on and on.

I knew Akili would be the pick. You can't really call Ki-Jana Carter or David Pollock busts. A bust is someone that doesn't have the talent to live up to expectations. Those two had the talent, but injuries stole their potential.

In our case it's not simply missing on one player, it's years of missing on players that hurt. We had back-to-back overall #1 picks. We turned them into Dan Wilkinson and Ki Jana Carter. And that was just two years after drafting David Klingler.

qb's - Akili Smith and David Klingler

rb's - KiJana Carter and Chris Perry or Kenny Irons

wr's - Jerome Simpson (we put up with a bunch of junk from this guy. all his own fault, he could of been a good one) and David Verser

we might top the "awful tragedy" list too.

Odds are, there has to be a team out there to have more awful tragedies than ours that ended careers, but we have to be pretty high.

Chris Perry. Great thing we traded away the ability to get Stephen Jackson for that bum.

Akili was the biggest of the many Bengal busts. Especially considering that they turned down the entire saints draft (and Akili would've likely been available at the saints pick).

Like everyone else I was shocked that they passed on S.Jackson for Perry...but Perry was electric when he was healthy. He was one of the more exciting Bengals that I can remember...he was just rarely healthy then by the time he got his shot the injuries had taken their toll.

Travis Dorsch was my favorite bengal bust. that was a hilarious pick.

Wasn't he the guy the Steelers crossed off their scouting list after he dislocated his shoulder during a routine practice? But then again, they actually have a scouting department.

I think Lloyd Carr ran Chris Perry into the ground when he was at Michigan. I remember at least 2 games in his senior year where he ran it over 40 times. By the time he became a pro, he had taken a lot of hits.

both Perry and Pollack were lauded for their durability heading into the draft. You never know. And I think perry's knees were the issue.

I agree. I thought Perry was extremely durable at Michigan. That's why he had so many carries. I just think it's interesting how some running backs appear to break down a few seasons after being over-used. I think that contributed to the early injuries Perry experienced. What finally did him in though was dislocating his ankle - That seemed to rob him of his speed.
