Garrett Williams and Matt Krook are similar pitchers. Both have great fastballs, Williams a little more velocity, Krook a little more movement. Both have a great offspeed pitch, Krook has 2. Both 2016 college draftees, both lefty, both struggle with command as a result of not being able to repeat their delivery. Williams started the year injured so the Giants started him off a bit slower, but it wouldn't have been surprising to see both guys in San Jose on opening day (if healthy), and we may see that soon anyway.

It looks like the Giants may have really found something with Heath Quinn.

Shaw continues to rake.

Also, just saw a note that yesterday was Stratton's spot but Slania was moved up. That's probably why tomorrow's probable still has it as Slania.

Stratton is going to be brought in when Strickland is suspended.

Yes, my son lives and works in Denver. Will be going to a ROX game on Tuesday at Coors.

The jimmy-jacking used to be the Giants way.

I was really disappointed in Calixte today. He had a chance to bunt a runner over late in the game, and basically grounded out to the pitcher. Even the broadcasters were saying the dude has such speed, he needs to learn how to bunt. Calling Brett Butler!

Miguel Gomez has such a good bat, and such a terrible glove. If DH's made errors, he would have a bunch of them.

We all know that Williamson needs to prove himself to be a big league hitter and so he needs to play at AAA so proven vets like Hernandez and Hill and Morse and whoever the team calls up next can deliver their provenness with their veteran leadership and their intangibles and such.

If the DSL team puts together a winning streak of at least 3 games, they need to immediately be promoted to AA . . . the whole roster.

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) WON 7-3

Christian Arroyo 1-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB. So Arroyo said he needed to work on his plate discipline when he was sent down. Great start, taking 1 walk and seeing 25 pitches (1 walk was intentional). That's 6.25 pitches per PA. Played 3B.
Jae-Gyun Hwang 3-4, HR (6), 3 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB. Played 1B. Seems like he's fine, and was taken out for defense yesterday.
Carlos Moncreif 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB.
Chris Shaw 1-5, 4 K. Rough game in a rough stretch for Shaw, who has more K's than hits his last 10. Let's see how he responds.
Mac Williamson 1-3, 2B, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K. DH'd.

Bullpen game.
Roberto Gomez 3.2-5-2-2-1-4
Kraig Sitton 2.1-2-1-0-1-1

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) lost 6-5

Christian Arroyo 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI. Played SS.
Ryder Jones 2-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K. Played 3B.
Fed-X 2-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, 1 R, PB (4). Go-ahead 3-run shot in the 8th. He's been really freaking good this year with the bat, line up to .345/.408/.513 over 30 games. Trevor Brown has been disastrous overall, wonder if Fed-X has passed him? Fed-X is having problems with the glove himself.
Wynton Bernard 3-5, 1 R.

Tyler Beede 7.0-8-4-4-3-8. 108 pitches, 60 for strikes. Really labored through this one, but got through 7. In the 1st inning, he needed 33 pitches to get through, but only needed 75 pitches the other 6, so that's a positive. But, it's 3 straight poor starts for Beede.
Dusten Knight 1.2-0-1-1-1-3. He was nasty, but Crick allowed his walk to score the tying run.
Kyle Crick 0.1-2-1-1-0-0.

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) WON 8-2 (Game 1)

Slade Heathcott 3-4, 2 HR (9), 3 RBI, 2 R, 1 K. .279/.358/.486, this kid does it all and plays CF.
Miguel Gomez 3-4, 3 R. Played 2B.
Jerry Sands 2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI.
Dylan Davis 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K.

Sam Coonrod 6.0-6-2-2-1-4
Collin Balester 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) lost 3-0 (Game 2)

(Slade got the rest of the day off)
Jerry Sands 2-3.

Cory Taylor 6.0-7-3-3-2-3

San Jose Giants (A+) were off

:fish2:

Augusta GreenJackets (A) WON 5-2

Kelvin Beltre 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 R.
Will Albertson 3-4.
Brandon Van Horn 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 R.

Melvin Adon 7.1-5-2-1-2-6. This was probably his best start as a pro. Extremely efficient (87 pitches into the 8th), he had a shutout until a solo homer in the 7th. Kid throws an easy 97-98 and gets up to 100.
Patrick Ruotolo 1.2-0-0-0-0-4. 27th rounder in the 2016 draft, he's done nothing but strike outs out at incredible clips in his career. Throws a low-mid 90's fastball and has a 12-6 curveball. Keep an eye in this one.

Thursday 6/8. The org went 5-1 overall today :thumb:

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) lost 9-2

Ryder Jones 1-3, HR (7), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 E (3). Played 3B. Ryder is up to .285/.377/.523. He's posting the best walk rate of his career (a very good 10.9%) and a very respectable K rate (18.9%, he's usually had pretty good K rates). His .238 ISO is also a career high. Finally putting his tools to use it seems. He's also played a lot of 3B since the recent roster turnover, with Hwang seeing more time at 1B, and Shaw taking over left. Jones in Rule 5 eligible.

Chris Stratton 4.1-5-5-5-3-3. Had a promising start to the season, but has been out of whack since.
Kraig Sitton 1.2-5-1-1-1-1
D.J. Snelten 1.0-0-0-0-1-2. 79% GB rate, and 19% swinging strike rate in AAA, both leading the team. Wow (in 8 innings). Oh, and he's a lefty. Keep an eye on him. Rule 5 eligible.
Ryan Webb 1.0-2-3-0-0-0
Steven Okert 1.0-0-0-0-1-1

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) WON 6-3

Slade Heathcott 1-5, HR (10), 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K. His K rate his a bit high, but he is just killing it in all other areas. .277/.354/.497 .217 ISO in the most pitcher friendly ballpark in AA, possibly in all of MiLB. Plays great defense in CF. Runs well. Exciting player.
Jerry Sands 2-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K.
Jeff Arnold 1-2, HR (2), 2 BB, 3 RBI, 1 R.

Matt Gage 7.0-4-3-3-0-7
Jarrett Martin 1.0-0-0-0-1-0
Tyler Cyr 1.0-0-0-0-0-2

San Jose Giants (A+) WON 7-3

Ronnie Jebavy 3-6, 1 R, 2 SB (2), 2 K. Ronnie has been on fire since being activated. Good to see. 4th OF potential.
Ryan Howard 2-5, HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K. 6th in the league in hitting (.319), tied for first in hits (72). Matt Duffy clone.
Bryan Reynolds 2-4, 1 R, 1 K. Hit streak now at 16 games. Still haven't been that impressed overall though. Strikes me as a 4th OFer at best.
Aramis Garcia 2-5, 3B, 3 RBI, 1 K.
Heath Quinn 2-5, HR (6), 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 BB. He's looking like a steal in the 3rd round of last years draft. He has a .321/.382/.617 line with a .296 ISO.

Matt Krook
5.0-4-3-3-2-5. 85 pitches, 50 strikes. 11 groundball outs. 3.76 ERA over last 5 starts.
Carlos Diaz 3.0-1-0-0-1-3. Diaz has been really good, outside of a 4 game rough stretch. Last 5 appearances: 10.1 IP, 5 H, 15 Ks, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA. Hasn't given up a homer in 38.1 IP on the season, which is insane in the Cal league. Big lefty, throws a fastball (88-93) and slider (80-81) combo.
David Owen 1.0-1-0-0-0-0

Exciting day for San Jose.

Augusta GreenJackets (A) WALKED-OFF 7-6

Sandro Fabian 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R.
Christian Paulino 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 SB (9), 1 K.

Garrett Williams 3.1-5-2-2-4-4. First struggle for the lefty 2016 10th rounder. Still some positives, induced 6 groundouts and no flyouts.
Jose Morel 2.1-3-0-0-0-2
Sandro Cabrera 2.0-2-4-4-2-2
Nolan Riggs 1.1-1-0-0-0-4

The Augusta roster intrigues me. Frandy de la Rosa is the 4th player on that team to be suspended (Cameron Avila-Leeper, Tyler Brown and Anthony Marks being the other three). I have no idea why any of them have been suspended but it seems rather unusual for so many in the same season. None of them were suspended at the same time either but none have been taken off suspension.

Also, looking at some of the poor offensive output there and one really stuck out - Zachary Bowers. In 49 at bats, Bowers has managed to strike out a whopping 28 times! He somehow managed 2 walks and 4 singles in his time with Augusta. Not surprisingly, he got sent back to extended spring training.

Great job this week, SFGRTB. I can take it this week if you want. I have wifi access. Beautiful here in the Rockies, only at 8,500', but still searching for oxygen.

Here is an interesting piece of information that I just found out - Thomas Neal will be one of the hitting coaches at Salem-Keizer this year.

Also, I saw this more puzzling piece of information - the org moved Dusten Knight off the active roster with Sacramento and brought up Heath Slatton from San Jose, who himself had just been on the disabled list. Odd move but there must be some kind of reason behind it.
