Dolphins just resigned Grimes to a 4 year $32 million dollar deal. Thats an average of $8 per year. For those who were calling for Talib, and then draft a WR..... I think the market has just determined that we would be smarter drafting a CB capable of either starting or being our #3. Because no way do i see Talib going for less than $6.5 a year now.

the 32 million is not guaranteed shark. What is the real deal? That's the deal with the incentives included.

only 16 million is guaranteed. He might be making 5 mil a year in the first 3 years. We don't know how its broken out. he is not making 8 mil per season.

If he plays out the entire contract its going to average $8 million a season. Do I expect him to make $8 million a season as straight out money?? Nope. But point is, even IF only half of it is guaranteed, other FA corners are going to look at the structure of this deal and try and base their demands off of these numbers. And I dont see Talib going in for less than grimes deal. Especially in light of the fact that he might be one strike away from out of the league.

Talib was never going for 6.5 mil. He was offered a multi-year deal last year that was close to that and elected to take the one year prove it deal.

My point exactly. If he turned down $6.5 on average, and Grimes just got $8 million a year on average... no way does Talib come in for less than $7 million a year on average. If we are throwing hissy fits over paying Rak and riley, no way in hell should we even consider Talib consider what the market was just set at.

Grimes is not getting 8 million a year shark. You don't know how the contract is worked out. If the contract is back loaded he could be making 4-5 million in years one and two. Talib is going to want guaranteed money upfront. Its all in how you work the contract. With Riley leaving b/c of the Butler deal and possibly RAk leaving, Talib is very much in play.

Reports are that $16 million of Grimes deal is guaranteed. And if we let Rak and Riley leave and then throw money at Talib, it will just prove what I have been saying. We as a franchise and as a fan base always tend to value other peoples players more than our own. Even if we gave Talib the exact same deal as Grimes just got, but needed to fill three starting LB positions, its a net loss.

no its not a loss. b/c you never overpay for avg talent. I believe Riley is avg talent and will get overpaid. Rak is a good talent but wants to be paid as an elite talent. If we get Talib, Robinson and Jenkins are going to have to step up. I rather have a hole at ILB than CB.

robinson cant seem to stay healthy, and Jenkins is NOT ready to be a starter. So yes it is a net loss. Its like skimping on good brakes in order to get rims for your car. One might look good, but with out the brakes, the rims are just fluff.

Then in that case, why pay any of these guys?? I think the market to a degree has been set. If the going average for a job is X$'s then thats roughly what you expect to pay in order to fill said named job. You can always attempt to go cheaper, but in most cases you get what you pay for. We have two guys who we KNOW can produce in our system because they have produced in our system. Now we could go out and pay less, and hope it works out. then throw money at guys like talib and HOPE they produce too. Nut if you cant assume Rak and riley will produce just because you paid them, how then can you assume that talib will produce for us?

b/c talib is a better football player than Riley. Rak is a better football player than Riley BUT he cant ask the world in his contract demands. I believe in paying elite football players. Riley is not even close. I said I would give rak 8 million a year but he wants more. Which is crazy. I don't believe he is a top player at his position. Just my opinion.

I would be OK for paying a CB that kind of money, but not Talib. As Shark has said, one more strike and he is out..and I agree with him there. There are safer (and a little bit cheaper) options out there.

Im not ok with paying ANY CB that kind of money if it also means we have two new starting ILBs. Which is what its looking like. We are creating one hole to try and fill another one. And while its great they will have rak for atleast one more year, its a waste of $5 million in cap space if we only have him for one more year and we have to do it all over next year PLUS add in trying to resign Kerrigan. At some point you have to agree that you hang onto your solid guys and stop chasing the elite guys. A defense made up of 11 solid players will always trump a defense made up of 3-4 elite guys and a bunch of we hope this works kind of guys.

I am. CB trumps ILB any day of the week. especially 3-4 ILB's.

Thats like saying if you have Megatron, you dont need a good QB and RB. The best CB on the planet does you no good if you can not stop the run or pressure the QB. How much did revis help the Bucs defense with their below average LB group?

With hall back and orakpo now tagged I really don't want to see us spend a lot on a corner. Roll with hall and amerson then sign a third cb cheap
