Its always something.....Bengals FO is always looking for a reason to NOT make the signing...CUT Leon's Ass and create more room......

Mike Johnson cut loose as Bengals crunch numbers

We are freeking NEVER CREATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So who would you rather have? Fairley or Johnson? Fairley is coming off a season he had 14 tackles and 1 sack. He is injury plagued throughout his career and had off field issues at times in his career also. Our biggest issue last year was at DE opposite Dunlap. If we can get Johnson back affordably considering the last 3 years he has just tallied 7-8 sacks, it would be worth it to upgrade that position and be able to use Gilberry, Hunt, Thompson in a rotation.

I would still look for a DE in the 3rd round maybe.

1 - OT
2 - WR (if the right guy is there)
3 - DE

Fairly is high upside with high injury concerns. He has never come close to his expectations. That is unless you read some of the pre-draft comments about him. Lazy and poor work ethic. As a lions fab he always left me wanting more. Often over weight and often injured. Somebody is going to pay him too much. I just hope it's not the lions unless it is some sort of elevator contact

He had a ton of pressures though and teamed with Atkins would be LETHAL those numbers you posted don't reflect the IMPACT...he is still young and we have Vets to tell him to shut the hell up and work out.....We have the money to do both.. MJ would definitely be an addition but his last year here and last year he hasn't reached even 8 sacks...Now sign both with a lineup of Dunlap Atkins, Fairley, MJ that will send a message... The whole "well we have to resign all those guys next season" ok yes we do but how much cap will be OPENED to sign all those guys...Thats a ton of contracts coming off the books... We are never creative... Its BS man...Period!

Fairley 3 years / 13 million
Johnson 4 years / 22.5 million

That works for me. Not sure it will work for them though. :)

Totally agree man. However, we all known the hand we've been dealt. The Bengals will not do what it takes. Plain and simple. They're cheap. And they're full of excuses and lies to appease the sheep. They don't want to be winners. It's always been that way, and will never change. Just is what it is.

I never expected them to sign Fairley anyway. Seems like they've been shying away from reclamation projects lately. Except for Burfict, but let's be real, they were paying him dimes compared to what Fairley would want.

Makes too much sense. However the Bengals are up against the cap. They just shelled out mega deals for Maualuga and a kicker. Oh, and a guard who apparently took less money to stay here. We have to have enough to bring back Brandon Tate after all

Fairley?

Meh.

He was alright, didn't really blow me away and he played next to the best DT in the NFL, so I don't see how pairing him with Atkins would get more out of him. If anything, you could argue you'd get less. I like Atkins, but he's no Suh.

Add in all the flags and other issues...pass.

As for Hardy...I'd like to see what his status is. I'm not looking to sign a guy that will end up playing 6-8 games. No thanks.

Ah, the outrage. Love it.

Why? Because I wouldn't dump stupid money to sign him?

Look, if they can get him cheap, then fine. I have no issue with that, but I would not give up top DT money to play here. Sorry. He had a solid season last year, but missed a sizable chunk. He also missed a good portion in 2012 prior to that, so injury is a real concern. His one full year in 2013 he finished with a negative grade against the run, and while his pass-rush numbers where higher than his rookie season that year, it took a large increase in snaps to get there. Again, last year he ranked highly, but it's hard to tell since he didn't play again after week 8.

It's also completely fair to wonder how he would do playing away from Suh. Like I said, Atkins is a good player (and hopefully he'll be more like himself this year) but he's no Suh.

Where the fuck are you getting this "stupid money" idea from?

Fairley is a stud btw. It's not up for debate. And in the NFL everyone is at risk for injury.

The Bengals had a chance to do something right for fucking once and they blew it...again.

Don't even talk to me about the draft. Marvin doesn't start defensive rookies. There will be no help through the draft.

Fairley is visiting the Rams today. He's gone.

We supposedly broke off talks because of Michael Johnson. We damn well better sign MJ now.

He's a stud who played less than a year his first year, and less than a year this year, and played 1 full year in year 2, in which his numbers weren't great.

Yeah, injuries are always a part of the game, but when you are signing guys you'd like to see some longevity and not injury, ok, injury, free-agent.

Again, the outrage on this board...hilarious.

The Bengals changed for about a half season back when we didn't promote some wierdo in the oranization and actually hired Marvin. since then the Brown family has regained control.

proof?

Rey Maualuga (reported as $6.8 million cap hit)

he's not worth that kind of money. he's arguably been the worst starting player at his position for years and we sign him because he's "our guy"

loyalty, to a fault, does not win championships.

the Bengals aren't interested in increasing their odds of winning a championship, they just keep handing the ball to Dalton and saying, "at least make it interesting, okay?"

and I must admit, it's more entertaining than watching Scott Covington trying to make people forget he shouldn't be on an NFL roster.

or is it?
