Dodgers president says Don Mattingley will return next season

The Dodgers will bring back manager Don Mattingly for at least one more season, team president Stan Kasten confirmed Wednesday evening.

"Of course," Kasten said. "I never had any thought he would renege on his contract. It was never a question for me."

Kasten wouldn't elaborate beyond that, honoring a Major League Baseball policy that teams not make major announcements during the World Series, but sources with knowledge of the situation said the Dodgers intend to begin dialogue with Mattingly on a new contract in the next few days.

Probably the most uncomfortable press conference I have ever seen. The guys were about 12 feet apart, making them look like they are miles apart on working together, short or long term.

Yeah. It was ballsy as hell from Mattingly, and I don't really think it was necessary. He could just as easily have had that pout-fest in Kasten's office. That said, I think he was making valid points, but it's borderline suicidal to throw a fit like that on TV. I'm pretty amazed that he got away with it, actually.

I trust Kasten.

I dont want to step in your guys argument but I do disagree about Belisario. Belisario has been unconsistent the last two seasons and I honestly cannot say I trust him in a big game situation. He has nasty stuff and really should be better than he has been. I hope he gets it together but Belisario has stunk at some bad times for us.

Belisario was a workhorse this past season and I think every pitcher has bad stretches, especially when you're amongst the league leaders in innings pitched for a reliever. When his sinker was working he was even capable of getting our other pitchers out of jams at times. I don't think he had a bad enough season to call him inconsistent.

Also, guys like Tolleson, Elbert and Dominguez could have been useful in the playoffs but were injured. So in terms of the pen we have that to look forward to next year, I don't think these guys are bad players.

Maybe I am overexaggerating a little but any pressure situation with runners on it seemed like Belisario would stink it up. I want him to do well trust me, I just dont know if I have much faith in him.
