Apologies if this was covered in another thread, but couldn't recall. Keep hearing so many say the Knicks will win it (not because they will have as good a shot as anyone, but because the league wants them to)

I just cannot see this fixed for so many reasons. Is the accounting firm involved really willing to ruin their reputation if anyone ever spilled the beans? why has it been nearly 35 years since NY won it?

More importantly, when the NBA or whoever wants it fixed for NY brought it up to the owners does anyone really see Gilbert and Cuban saying, "You know us...whatever's best for the league. And, hell, if LA doesn't make the playoffs, let's give them the #2 pick."?

I think the first lottery was fixed in 1985, but I don't think it is fixed anymore. It just isn't worth it to the NBA to risk something like that getting out anymore.

However, it would hardly surprise me to learn I am wrong.

I don't think the first one was, but admittedly with the format then that one wouldn't shock me to learn it was.

People who think sports are fixed are just morons who are unhappy with the outcome of events

For sure seems like many fans, when their team loses, blame the refs or the coach. Couldn't possibly be the other team played well/better.

No. There is far too much at stake for the league to do something like that.

This X 1000.

Also think if it ever came out there could be prison time for whoever set it up. Why would billionaires risk this to make millions?

could a shady ref be bought off? I'm sure it's possible.

I absolutely think the Ewing draft was fixed. The league didn’t have as much to lose back then. No way it is now.

85 for sure.

I don't think the NBA cared enough about Cleveland to fix for them. They were just absurdly lucky.

I'm all for States legalizing gambling which means to me the punishment for fixing games for refs needs to be substantial

pretty sure it is. Which is why billionaires would not tell refs to fix games to make a few extra million,

Cleveland is proof that the lottery isn't fixed.

No way Stern lets them win 3 in 4 years after winning a generational talent 8 years prior.

No way is it fixed. Never has been.

The only "league" I would be willing to believe is fixed is FIFA and even there it is more corrupt than fixed.

I don't think it's fixed, but to eliminate all doubt, I think that draft order should be determined by a 3-point shooting contest open to all 30 teams with each team sending its three best shooters.

Not only would this system be fully transparent, but it would be totally fair and would make a team earn its draft position through skill and merit instead of rewarding poor play and determining the top picks through luck. Who's with me?

I do find it funny that we are spending a lot more time talking about lotto fixing than Tim Donaghy.

That ESPN report was crazy. And I would not be surprised in the least to find out that he wasn't the only ref doing fishy stuff.

Donaghy implicated at least one other NBA ref, having first hand knowledge, and no one talked about that.

So why would they care about Donaghy?
