1) Root for Palmer and the Raiders and get a worse 1st pick this year, but a 1st round pick next year (and possibly risk missing the playoffs due to them...unlikely though).

2) Hope Palmer and the Raiders do bad and get a better 1st round pick this year, but a 2nd rounder next year.

I go with the 1st scenario as they've already won 4 games and don't have an overly difficult schedule. Therefore, our 1st round pick this year is not going to be great anyways. At the worst, it's probably the difference between 4-5 spots.

Discuss.

You're are guaranteed a first & a second, its a win win situation..Id wish he floundered out there, and maybe get a 10-15 pick and then depending on where the Bengals finish, you can get a great draft with 2 #1's from 10-32.

The best interior lineman in the draft generally doesn't go until the back half of the 1st round, so even if Oakland does well we can still draft our biggest need.

That schedule is rather easy - Wonder how long it will take for Palmer to get up to speed.

wish him good karma for the first rounder.

we have so many needs we're likely to pick best available and get above average value.

I'd hope OAK doesn't win another game so we get a high 1st rounder this year and a high 2nd rounder next year which is basically a 1st. I do think Oakland will do pretty well with their schedule being what it is. What is Oaklands O-Line like? They better give him some time though he does have a MUCH better running game than he had here.

I hope they have a much better running game, I have d-mac in my nfl.com ffl, at least I think he has fresher legs than CB

Palmer hasnt been up to speed in 3 years.

We've been saying that about Flacco since he was drafted, but you seem to think he's a top flight QB. Unless you've finally come down to earth.

My dream, Oakland and us to make the playoffs, Oakland wins their first game against the team they play, we win our first game, we both meet in round two, and we slaughter Palmer and the Oakland Raiders to send them home packing as we move on to the AFC Championship game with Oaklands 1st two round picks for the next two years.

Plus, with the rookie scale, 1st rounders are finally affordable.

That'd be classic

It's what you call one of those 'good problems' I'm rooting for a Raiders post season win so we can get the 2013 first rounder (then I hope they go in the tank during the 12 regular season so it's a high pick).

totally, with first rounders not being as much of a burden financially (especially the high picks) this makes no sense for oakland. The CBA increased the value of these early picks which was already high. Just a batshit crazy trade by Oakland if you ask me...still cant believe it..

I don't think it was that "batshit" crazy.

*Arizona Cardinals trade for (backup QB) Kevin Kolb:
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (you can assess his worth) and a second-round pick in 2012.

*Bears Trade For Jay Cutler (2009):
Kyle Orton, 2009 first-round pick, 2010 first-round pick, 2009 third-round pick. (Chicago also received a fifth-round pick)

*Texans Trade For (backup QB) Matt Schaub (2007)
2007 2nd round pick, 2008 2nd round pick, and Atlanta and Houston swapped 2007 1st round picks (Atlanta received the 8th pick while Houston moved back to 10th)

QBs are a hot commodity. Depending on the circumstances of a team, many times they go for a hefty price. A trade for a 1st rounder and 2nd rounder is right within the ballpark of the above.
