Chiefs RB/WR/KR Dexter McCluster is without a defined role this season.

McCluster saw increased playing time out of necessity down the stretch of the 2011 season. The Chiefs have since added Peyton Hillis, RB Cyrus Gray, and WR/KR Devon Wiley while welcoming back a healthy Jamaal Charles. It's fair to wonder if McCluster's roster spot is secure. He's a fantasy afterthought regardless.

IF he's released, I'd let Ginn go and give his agent a call ASAP.

He lines up in the slot as much as he lines up in the backfield. With us he'll see much more slot than RB, plus that return factor as well.

I would like to think if he is released he would get a call from the Rams too. And i think he would choose the Rams and not being buried in the depth chart over the 49ers. But I'd imagine over half the teams in the league would be interested in him.

He's one of my favorite players in the NFL. I don't mean favorite as to me suggesting he's one of the upper echelon players in the league, but rather a player I like to root for every Sunday. A player who always excites me!

But aren't we just a bit crowded atm?

Unless one would view McCluster more of a threat/weapon than a LMJ(rookie) and Hunter.

Had we not added LMJ, i would be all for it.

If I were a team like the Chargers, I'd tried to trade for him. He can take over Sproles' previous role with that team. After losing Jackson and Sproles, the Chargers should work towards of adding explosive type players to their offense.

I'd hate to see him go to a team like Green Bay, Detroit, Dallas, and Andy Reid's Eagles. Those teams would with McCluster would pose a serious threat to us, making their offense that much more explosive.

I doubt KC will trade him to a division rival

You're absolutely right! But if they cut him like Clyde had hinted, then they would probably have their chances of acquiring him that way.

OT -- but I hear Jamaal Charles is bigger and stronger than last year. I have him in the Monster's league and I am definitely going to retain him on my team :-)

They would be stupid to get rid of him. This is not only plays RB and returns kicks but he also plays slot receiver. He fills in several spots for him, not to mention he is a game breaker.

I doubt he's going anywhere. He is incredibly popular in these parts.

I think a few on here are confused about the point of signing Dex Mcluster.

THE POINT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM AT RB. It has everything to do with him playing slot WR AND RETURN SPECIALIST.

Think about it in terms of him replacing Ginn and Kyle Williams, everthing they did or tried to do, replaced by a greater talent.

I would be ecstatic if that happened.

That's me with Reggie Bush (USC fan) Even though he hasn't been the greatest, he is my favorite player in the NFL that isn't a Niner. Was good to see him play so well last year.

Rep for being one of the few who actually paid attention to what I said.

McCluster would be a slot WR and kick returner for us first.

Despite the fact that McCluster lines up in the slot a lot, I still wouldn't sign him. He's a RB. The Niners have plenty of receivers who can line up in the slot.

Ginn signed for pretty cheap. I think the Niners are set at RS.

He's just as much of a WR as he is a RB. If it wasn't for Charles' injury, he would've seen more playing time at the slot.

I don't think Ginn is a good slot guy. He's more straight line fast than quick. McCluster would be an instant upgrade at the slot over Ginn, and can be just as good of a returner. He can also run the ball if we really need him to. Meanwhile Ginn is completely useless outside of returning punts.
