Anyway, this is reminiscent of an infamous Skip Bayless story about Aikman. Long before he was a professional troll with a national platform on ESPN, Bayless was a writer, and in 1996 penned "Hell Bent," a book focusing on the Cowboys, which passed along rumors that Aikman was gay. As recently as 2009, he was doubling down on the allegations: "The coach definitely thought he was gay and a lot of his teammates thought he was gay," Bayless said. "More than that, they thought he was racist and they thought he was trying to get Barry Switzer."

Manley was far from irrelevant when he was on the field. He's just known as a great player who people wondered how he got through college and into the NFL without knowing how to read.
