Congrats to the Devils and their fans on the win tonight.

Giving up a SH goal followed up by PP goal right away in the 1st period was all it took to keep the Sabres at bay.

Any time the Sabres scored, the Devils would score right after to keep them out of the game.

Enroth finally has a regulation loss, but Myers looked like a beast out there tonight. I really hope being a healthy scratch woke him up, and that he plays like this the rest of the way.

Maybe a few other players like Leino should be a healthy scratch next?

Good game though, can't wait for game 2.

Big Ville Style always seemed to respond whenever he was a healthy scratch in Philadelphia. Of course, facilitating honesty here, Leino was the beneficiary of playing on the same team as JVR - as are all of his past and present teammates. #Beast

Leino was given Datsyuk and Zetterberg and still only skated half-assed and pouted. I don't even remember if the door hit him on the way out or not. It probably did and I bet his helmet flew right off his mid 20's beacon o' baldness...

With the way things are in the sport these days, I was happy to see the refs/media didn't jump all over the Myers hit on Zubrus and blow it out of proportion. :thumb:

This. Last night was hands down his best game of the season and I'd go so far as to say one of the best games of his career. He finally played like a 6'8" guy and didn't make any of the mistakes that have been plaguing him lately.

Let's hope it continues.

If Myers get suspended for that hit, I'll be quite disappointed. What is he supposed to do in that situation, just let Zubrus skate by unimpeded? It's not his fault he's 6'8" and Zubrus is reaching for the puck.

No need to worry, I'm sure Myers will tell Shanaban that he didn't intend to hit him in the head and all will be forgiven.

Haven't watched enough Sabres to know, but has Ehrhoff looked that bad all year? He just looked lazy out there, especially on the hooking call that led to the Kovy goal.

"I watched it between periods," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. "I didn't like the look of it. It looked to me like one of the head shots we're trying to get out of the game. But I don't get paid to look at those things. Brendan Shanahan does, so I'll be interested in seeing what their opinion of it is."

Zubrus admitted he was woozy after the hit, but he did not go to the quiet room to be checked for a possible concussion.

"I didn't stay down on purpose, but I didn't feel I needed it," Zubrus said.

His teammates were baffled that no penalty was called.

"They said maybe (Zubrus) was reaching for it," Patrik Elias said. "Still, their guy has to make an attempt to play the puck."

That didn't happen, according to Zubrus.

"I know I was reaching for the puck. I know I never had possession of it," he said. "I asked the refs and they said they didn't want to guess and make the wrong call.

"I definitely felt it. I don't know if it was a shoulder or an elbow or what it was but it landed on my head. I was out of it for a little bit. I was sitting on the bench, slowly started getting back and I was fine."

Ilya Kovalchuk said of Myers: "I think he left his feet, too."

The rumor floating around right now is that Myers will receive a 3-4 game suspension for the hit?

I'm on the fence about the hit. Here are some reactions from the Devils.

Zubrus:
Zubrus was leaning forward trying to reach for the puck when Myers hit him with his upper right arm/elbow. Zubrus didn't think that Myers attempted to play the puck at all. No penalty was called.

I know I was reaching for the puck,; he said. ;I know I never had possession of it and instead of playing the puck, I think he just went after me. I asked the refs and they said they didn't want to guess and make the wrong call. You guys saw it better than I did probably."

DeBoer:
Devils coach Pete DeBoer said he watched the video of the hit between periods and thought it was one worthy of a second look by the NHL.

"I didn't like the look of it,; DeBoer said. It looked to me like one of the head shots we're trying to get out of the game, but I don't get paid to look at those things. Brendan Shanahan does. So, I'll be interested to see what their thinking on it is."

I will be pissed if Myers gets a suspension for this while Lucic gets nothing for flashing his puppy eyes and saying he is sowwy.

I think he should get 2 at most, but fine with nothing but a warning though. As for Lucic, Miller was out of the crease, alot, fuck that fair game I say

No fine or suspension for Myers in case anyone cares or didn't know.
