This guy was on the team that is historically better, but they just happened to lose that year

Played 18 seasons, mostly in the NL. Racked up a 52.8 career WAR.
Not in the hall of fame-probably not even close, but I'm guessing he got some votes.
Consistent power hitter with 11 seasons of over 20 hrs, many times while only playing 135-145 games due to injuries. 4 All Star appearances and 6 times received MVP votes.
Very good OBP - .267 average, .379 OBP

He had some really good years near the end of his career and was well respected, but the end of his career was also around the time Mcgwire, Canseco and some other guys were doing amazing things as rookies

that last clue might be a little misleading, because Mcgwire and Canseco were in the AL when they came up, but he was overshadowed by all the great players that happened to be coming into the league then.

I'm praying to Northeast for the answer but I'm getting nothing. This religion feels very similar to my prior faith-Catholicism

Because he was the main power hitter he put up some incredible walk totals late in his career. One year, his teammate, who was a second baseman racked up 110 RBIs with only 8 HRs, probably because they didn't want to get beat by this player.
