I know they play 2 different positions, but I think that their careers are most similar to eachother... At least the closest I have found...

who would you rather have play for your team???

Different players but pretty close. Rose was versatile position wise but Jete's has him on speed, baserunning and played a more valuable position. Can't go wrong with either guy.

How was Rose in the locker room? He has become a DB, but was he that way while playing?

If so, I think Jeter is the guy. I am a big supporter of clubhouse presence.

Didn't they play about 8-9 different positions? I think Rose did everything but pitch and catch during his career and Jeter played SS and was/is a catcher :pound:

I love jeter, but as a numbers guy I would have to take Rose over Jeter...

Both were equally bad in defensive value(even though rose played multiple positions). But the reason I would take Rose over Jeter is because both statistically speaking look like they should have hit in the number 2 role... But Rose Struck out much less and grounded into an average of 6 less double plays per season...

So statistically speaking I would rather have Rose, but as a Yankee fan, I wouldn't imagine myself ever taking Rose over Jeter...

During the regular season I'd take the all time Hit King. Post season though I'd rather have Jeter.

After further thought...

If we are talking about a mythical draft using all players from all times, neither of these players are "first-rounders", and would be role-fillers instead. Depending on how the team is filling out would dictate who I would be interested in.

Do I need a #2 hitter?

Do I need a utility infielder?

Do I have a clubhouse of questionable characters and I need a someone to bind them together (for example, is Cobb on my team)?

Rose was a switch hitter and could help at multiple positions. I liked Jeter and didn't like Rose but i'll take Pete.

By this way of thinking Jeter should be a starting SS, but Rose starting would depend on how the team drafted and what their needs are.

I would still prefer to have Rose.

I'll take the guy with the most hits vs the guy with the most prostate exams and STD's.

In all seriousness, I don't see how this is even a topic of discussion. Jetes was maybe the 10th best ss on his own team

Jeter because of his high character. Rose because of his extraordinary hustle.

You do Know, that Jeter had a higher BA and OBP than Rose... So Jeter was actually better at getting hits and on base...

The OBP's were pretty much even. 377 Jeter, 375 Rose. Jeter stole more bases and had the higher BA.

Jeter was better in every major statistic(OBP,BA,HR,SB) and had better 162 game average for Runs and RBIs

Going with Jeter after checking the stats further
Higher BA
Slightly higher OBP
Higher OPS (817/784)
Tons more stolen bases
100 more HR's in a lot less at bats

And with all that, I would still statistically speaking take Pete Rose over Jeter...

Jeter definitely has it over Rose in power, RBIs and SBs, as well as position. Rose had better control of the strike zone. You'd want to have Rose in the #2 spot, while Jeter was legit anywhere 1-3. As for fielding, Jeter has a very slightly better fielding percentage at short than Rose had at 2nd. And Jeter destroys Rose in oWAR and dWAR, for those who care about that.

They both had great, but very different, intangibles.

I guess you could say Rose gives you more years, but they aren't very good years. If Jeter had moved to first base and played about 5 more seasons, hitting .277 with little power but walking a lot, averaging 45 runs and 1 RBI, and getting caught stealing 10 times a year while stealing none, then they'd be about even.

I'll take Jeter pretty easily. In addition to everything else, as other have said, he was almost miraculous in the clutch.
