Thank you lambeau leap for this nugget

He's in the all-time Top 20 in GIDP too:

14. Vladimir Guerrero 277
14. George Scott 277
14. Miguel Tejada 277
17. Roberto Clemente 275
18. Paul Konerko 272
18. Derek Jeter 272
20. Al Kaline 271

Just checked - he's the only player in the all-time top-20 inboth strikeouts and GIDP.

Bu-bu-bu-but...It's his yankee teammates' faults for being on base in front of him...if he played on a team with guys who wouldn't get on base so much, he would just have reg'lr groundouts!

I love the cocky little "talk to the hand" gesture he gives the plate umpire to signal time prior to every pitch of every at-bat. Why don't they quick pitch him when he does this?

:omg:

NOT a stat you will hear on YES.

How long does Jetes stay in the 2-hole? Is Girardi's job in jeopardy if he benches Jeter or drops him in the order?

From everything I hear, he really likes it in the 2 hole

Just like his strikeouts, he GIDPs like a power hitter too

Another of his incredibly arrogant mannerisms. I've wondered forever why the opposing manager hasn't ever reminded the ump that in baseball you ask for time, you don't just assume it as Jeter does. Then quick pitch the asshole for an easy strike.

I particularly love it when Jeter hits a routine grounder but reaches on an error. Two batters later someone goes yard but somehow Jeter is the "catalyst" and deserves more praise than the guy who just hit the HR!!!

I'd love to hear Tim Kurkjian's spin on the current state of Derek Jeter.

"Jeter isn't struggling offensively, he's just focusing on the intangibles right now." - Tim Kurkjian

This is something that I just realized when looking at some statistics. I wasn't planning on posting, but I think it's probably something people who enjoy this thread will like to read.

Derek Jeter's defensive War since the year 2000
2000 - worst SS (-1.2)
2001 - the only SS with a negative dWAR (-.8)
2002 - worst SS (-.9)
2003 - worst SS (-.6)
2004 - 20th out of 22 who qualified (-.4) Was ahead of Michael Young and Carlos Guillen
2005 - Only Michael Young (-2.4) was worse (still had a -1.9 dWAR)
2006 - Only Felipe Lopez (-.9) was worse (Jeter = -.8)
2007 - Only Hanley Ramirez (-2.1) was worse (-1.5)
2008 - Only Yuniesky Betancourt (-.5) was worse (-.2)
2009 - Finished 12TH out of Shortstops and had a positive dWAR (1.0)
2010 - Finished 17th out of 21 (-.1)
2011 - Worst SS (-1)
2012 - worst SS (-1.4)

Jeter went 2-4 today with no strikeouts. Where are all the Yankees fans with their righteous indignation and obnoxious sense of entitlement? :noidea:

If the Yankees didn't need a captain during the eras of DiMaggio and the Mick, why do they need one now?

UZR and dWAR are not particularly useful stats from year to year (not entirely without merit, just not entirely trustworthy), but when a trend like this pops up, that is significant.

You really need to rename this thread after your epithiany...that rename is utterly brilliant....even better than my Austin JacKKKKson reference.

The 2013 version of dereK: old, fat, bald and ugly. The Captain? Yeah of the Mayflower maybe?
