7 dlinemen is understandable Dorsey and Williams coming off injuries. Dial and TJE are good backups but does anyone want them starting? Tank is the one I wanna see get a bunch of playing time.

7 or 8 sounds good to me. If Justin doesnt retire we would already be at 7 if we resign TJE. That would give us Justin, Dockett, Dorsey, Tank, Williams, Dial, TJE and whoever we draft.

My first reaction is...........how does this reflect on our current young linemen? If Carradine, Dial, and TJE were REALLY up and coming, would we NEED to sign Dockett?

now if they know Justin is leaning to retirement, then this makes sense. But wouldn't you wait till AFTER he retires? Or are we looking at Dockett just taking McDonald's spot?

How many linemen do we have now.....Justin, Dorsey, Ian, Dial, Carradine, TJE. Dockett. Did we keep seven on the 53 last season? There were injuries thru the season (Dorsey at least), so can't assume we kept everyone on the 53?

Purcell will remain on the PS assuming he's eligible. I never gave Okoye much chance at making the 53, nothing against him but he's just too far back.

We need a guy who can start, and the jury's still out if the young guys can. TJE is a backup; not likely to ever be more. Dial and Carradine could start at some point, but neither have proven it. This draft is thin at DT, and I think Baalke is going to try to avoid adding FAs to maximize next year's comp picks. If Smith goes, we had to add something. If he doesn't, I'm not as big a fan of this move as it does make us older at the position. We'll see.

He was waived/cut by Arizona but a hopefully a good pickup! The Dline with a healthy LB Core back can be very good!! Go 49ers!!

I saw this more of a replacement for McDonald. Perhaps I'm wrong, but this guy can lead that D-line if Justin does in fact retire.

49ers looking at Cole. If they sign cole I would think Smith is gone.

we would keep all of them if we could, but in the overall 53 man roster, don't think we kept even 7?

You think so? Even at his age?

Yes, he had the entire year off almost. He should be in great physical health even at his age. I loved him as a Cardinal and I've little doubt he's going to play with a chip on his shoulder. I think it's a great pickup and I hate we didn't resign him.
