I love this signing! Honestly didn't think this one would get done. With the 2 drafted safeties it just seemed like if he had another good year he was on his way out and of course he is having a career year. He took a discount though (only 12th highest paid safety when he probably could have looked to get $10 million a year on the open market with his play) as we have seen with some Bronco players that just want to stay in Denver and helps us keep together an incredible defense for the next 4 or so years. Love this work by Elway as he continues to show how well he and the FO manage this cap. I keep having people ask "how do the Broncos have so much money to spend on all these top players?" Well they can do it because they draft well and build contracts in a way where they don't have to back load the deals to get them to fit under the cap pushing the problem down the road.

Also just want to point out this honestly takes us out of the Romo talk in my opinion. I've done a quick look at our Cap for next year and while we can fit Romo under the cap I just can't see it with how much Elway loves to bring in those complimentary players to fill out the roster like a Crick, Stewart, Winn and so on. I think this type of deal is just another indication that they are happy with the QB situation they have. I know people around the NFL don't like it but nobody knows these young guys better than the Broncos and the potential they have for growth!

Just cannot like love this more. I was so worried we would be losing such a key piece of this defense. I don't think a guy like Ware is going to be back so at least this dampens some of the losses we would have. Plus really at this point allows the Broncos to not have to worry about our own players for a year or two. Sly Williams and Vance Walker are the two that could be walking out the door and I wouldn't mind us making offers to either or both of them. Neither will cost a ton and will help keep some continuity for the Broncos allowing us to focus elsewhere in the draft if need be.

It looks like the Broncos couldn't pass up the discount from Stewart - I think the Broncos like both new safeties. Stewart has the playing role - Simmons was drafted to take care of - so it is interesting from that vantage point - too.

Well Phillip's system requires 3 quality Safeties anyway to make it fully function. He talked about before this past draft that he didn't have the players needed to run his full playbook but now with Simmons especially he feels like they can do some things that they couldn't do last year. Simmons has shown up big at times this year so I'm excited to see what the future brings with him.
