What's the financials on this? Did he forfit his remaining money or was there some kind of buyout? Either way, its was a wise move by the front office to play hard ball with him on that team option.


And hopefully this means Pau will stick around. He's still capable of being a nice starter. He likes LA and likes playing with Kobe so maybe he'd even be willing to take a little less cash to bolster the roster. I'd just like to see him finish out his career in LA. He doesn't get enough credit for how great he's been.

I agree with his reasoning. He didn't want to be seen as a "lame duck coach" who was likely to be fired just when the Lakers were about to be good again.

But when you are coming off a 27 win season and fans want you killed and then fired, you thank the team for understanding what you had to work with and being willing to give you another season.

Nothing wrong with asking, but demanding it is waaaaay overplaying your hand.

I believe that the Lakers paid him roughly half of the $4 million he would have been due, which showed class on their part because, from what I understand, they didn't have to pay him anything if they didn't want to since he resigned.
