STARS (3-3-0) at KINGS (5-3-0)

TV: FS-SW, FS-W

Season series: The Dallas Stars won three of five against the Los Angeles Kings last season, with Jeff Carter and Jamie Benn notching five points apiece. No longer division rivals, they meet for the first of three this season.

Big story: The Kings head home for four games after a four-game road trip that saw them compile a 3-1-0 mark with two wins coming in shootouts. The Stars begin a tough weekend in Los Angeles before a Sunday night game in Anaheim.

Team Scope:

Stars: The Stars have played their last two games against teams that entered undefeated, falling 3-2 to the Colorado Avalanche on the road Tuesday, before earning a 4-3 shootout win over the San Jose Sharks at home on Thursday. Despite giving up the first goal of the game nine seconds in, the Stars and goaltender Dan Ellis recovered to beat the Sharks.

"A goal like that can set you back and rattle you, but he battled through the whole game. He gave us a great performance at the end," coach Lindy Ruff said of Ellis, who stopped 32 shots and three more in the shootout.

Dallas fell behind three times but rallied to tie the game each time before winning on Alex Chiasson's goal in the third round of the shootout.

"We still had that sour taste from Colorado and as a team we played well. We battled through adversity tonight and showed a lot," Chiasson told the Stars website. "We gave up a goal right away, but we kept with our game plan. That made a huge difference, and our goalie played great. We battled through the whole game and good results happen."

Kings: After allowing three goals on 17 shots in 36 minutes of a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, Jonathan Quick responded with his best performance of the season Thursday night. Quick made 34 saves and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout as the Kings earned a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators.

"He was sharp tonight. He was good early, and it's a good test for him, because it's a building where he's had a tough time," coach Darryl Sutter said.

The Kings are glad to be back at Staples Center, where they've played only twice this season.

"What's more important is we played six of our first eight on the road, which is the most in the conference. So, we still have our heads above water after six road games. That's what's more important," Sutter said.

Who's hot: Cody Eakin has two goals in the past two games for the Stars. … The Kings have two regulation goals over the past two games, and both belong to Slava Voynov.

Injury report: Goalie Kari Lehtonen (lower body) and wing Scott Glennie (knee) are both on injured reserve for the Stars. … The Kings report no injuries.

Stars doing well. I would like to see a 60 minute game from the Kings. A win would be ok as well.
