I don't know.... 2012 is looking pretty good given that we got Burfict, Marvin Jones, Mo Sanu, Brandon Thompson and George Iloka.

One all-pro.

Two receivers that have had decent production and even better potential.

Thompson is a very good run-stuffer. He could be a 10 year vet if he stays healthy.

Iloka is an averages safety, but probably a guy that could make it on most teams.

That's 3-4 starters and another player or two that belongs on the roster BEFORE you even consider Swag.

Emmanuel Lamur was also an undrafted FA that year. Not as bad as it has been painted to be.

They kept Mays over Manning, because Manning was going to be a backup safety, while Mays could be a backup S and OLB. Mays gives them more flexibility. What Manning gave them as an upgrade to Mays over Safety, it was not nearly enough to outweigh the flexibility of Mays over two positions, especially when you are keeping a guy like Porter on the roster who can't stay healthy, and Flowers hasn't proved anything yet.

Oh, I see..... We're keeping a substandard safety with the hope that he can play linebacker because it wouldn't make sense to just find other linebackers.

Sounds about right.

I figured it was because Manning acted like a douche behind the scenes, or maybe because all his good work was against scrubs and it just made him look good.

the whole linebacker thing, although it may actually be the Bengals reason, is just freaking insane.

With the Bengals it's not always the position you play, but rather the position you can be moved to.

He will make a good replacement for Lamur, as he will be a coverage backer. Plus, he still has the speed to cover in the secondary and help the secondary if it comes to that. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the instincts, but I consider him a LB more because he is a below average safety, even with his freakish athletic ability.

Who knows, Manning may have wanted a starting job and if he didn't get it, he was maybe wanting released to pursue a chance somewhere else. I don't know the reason he was cut, but I can guess on many fronts. In the end, he was a backup S, so not sure what the panties are in a bunch for.

Manning didn't even make the practice squad.

no good play he made in the preseason matters as it was just the preseason. He's had his entire life to make plays and advance himself and obviously he failed to do that. Mays is familiar with our defense. It's not because "maybe he can play linebacker in a pinch" That's just retarded. please make it stop. That's some Geoff Hobson drivel that has no basis in reality.

Manning is a 9 year vet, so he can't be on the practice squad.

Manning was cut because he stinks.

He probably doesn't stink as much as Taylor Mays, but that's not saying much.

If we don't have any injuries our safeties will be fine.

Mays sticks since he showed last year he did a nice job lining up at LB and covering the TE's in that hybrid spot. Considering that decision came down to the last spot, I can see why they decided to stick with Mays and see if he can continue that play this year.

Well, I was just assuming why they kept him over Manning. I am not part of the front office, so I am not privy to that kind of inside information. It was just an educated guess as to why Mays made the team over Manning.

Manning had the one pick for 6 points, but the ball was thrown right to him, and other than that, I barely even knew he was on the team, because I never heard his name called outside that instance.

It really is not that big of a deal, I don't think.

It's not. We are talking about the last safety kept. If it comes down to that player needing to play major minutes, it wouldn't matter who it was, they wouldn't hold up. The team would either find another F/A or try for a trade (unlikely, but still).
