Would it be a good idea to maintain a thread providing a current cap space number? If so, here's the first post in that thread. (If not, please feel free to delete and/or ignore.)

Anyways, by my count, the Redskins have about $20M in space minus what Ricky Jean Francois' cap number will be.

I base that on the fact Over The Cap currently shows that the Redskins cap number is $23M and that the projected cap is $143. This yields a figure of $20M in cap space. Over The Cap, however, doesn't include Francois' contract figures, so we need to deduct that from the $20M number. Let's say Francois' cap figure is around $3M, our current cap space is around $17M.

Please feel free to add to this as other transactions occur.

is that with the bowen and Coefiled being release today? If we cut Hall and Chester I think that will give us another 6 or 7 million. I made a thread before that were 10 million under the cap and we can be 21 million under with the release of Hall, Chester, Bowen, and Coefield.

#Redskins cut Stephen Bowen, too. Not unexpected given injury history. Saves 'em $5.1 million on the cap. Pushes them into $23 million range

If you add Chester and Hall that should bring us to 30 million under. Excluding Ricky Franicos.

The $17M figure takes into account Bowen and Cofield. Cutting Chester would bump it up to around $21. However, if we give Trent (who carries a club-high cap number of more than $13M, $10M of which is base salary) an extension, we could clear around $6M. If we restructure Garçon by converting his $7M to a signing bonus, we could clear around $3M. His contract expires next year so the salary-to-bonus conversion wouldn't be that bad. Those two deals would clear around $10M in cap space, which would then take our cap number to around $30M.

if you cut chester then i think you have pretty much done what we are going to do as far as cuts and restructures are concerned

kiem reports no word on contract talks with william or kerrigan nor any kind of negotiation with garcon

i dont feel you are going to see these big splashes advocated by some here on this board

Didn't Hall just work out a much lower deal? So why cut him when he is cheaper and it's a huge need position?

You don't cut hall, you bring him in, see what he can do. If he's lost a step or 2, you consider moving him to safety.

If we are 30M under then I would see a big splash in FA. The fact that we are interested in Iupati means that One big splash is coming. He is probably going to get 7 mil per season.
