Pretty decent read and kinda pinpoints when Mike Brown started to relinquish some control.

It took him about 8 seasons to learn not to draft assholes. I'm hoping it won't take another 8 for him to learn basic clock management skills.

Interesting article.... I thought the part about Palmer really made sense in that he was tired of the bullshit that came along with the roster.

Well written article.

But it's a sad day when you're celebrating a "turnaround" that yields a mediocre team.

End of the day, we're loaded with talent, but still aren't much better - if at all - than we were in the mid (20)00's.

Real good article. And I think we are better than mediocre like Flaming says.

I think we have a really good team, with a few weaknesses of course, but enough talent to make a long hard run into the playoffs. If they play like a team and Dalton can rise above adversity.

Dalton is the key to everything. The other weaknesses can be made up for, a mediocre QB cannot. Dalton has to take that next step or it's likely 1 and done again or maybe 1 win in the playoffs.

I think Dalton can be better but I think a huge key to this teams success is going to be the OL. Can they open holes for the RB's, and can they keep the pressure off Dalton long enough for him to find the open receiver? If they can do that, Dalton will be successful. The running game will help Dalton, and if they can keep the seat of his pants clean, the passing game should be fine also.

I think the team now is much more talented than in the mid 2000s..... The defensive players on those mid-2000 teams were just awful -- They were so awful that it had a big impact on how we had to run the offense. Marvin started limiting Carson's ability to run things at the line just because he was scared that his D would have to spend more time on the field (if we went three and out).

The Line was fine last year. PFF had them as the 2nd best pass blocking line in the NFL. A LOT of those sacks are on Dalton. His pocket presence leaves a lot to be desired. This season is on his back.

Agree. And they should be even better this year given health at center and another year of experience playing together. It's on Dalton. He has to take the next step for this team to become a serious contender.

Exactly my thoughts. While we're much more talented, it isn't necessarily reflected in the results.

...so, the team is more talented, the culture has changed, but what of it?

Marvin simply needs to go. Like I said, it's a well written article and it's on point for the most part, but given the overhaul yet the similar results, it's more a fluff piece written about the guy who is one of the biggest problems.

I am absolutely fine with Marvin Lewis after the last couple years and the talent he has infused in this team. We are miles upon miles ahead of where we were in the mid 2000's in my opinion.

Some of the reason that line is ranked #2 is because of Dalton also. Dalton was one of the quickest to get rid of the ball in the NFL last year. Hard to sack a guy too much when he is getting rid of the ball faster than a majority of the league. The line can thank Dalton for their ranking also.

No they can't. I'd bet at least 1/3 if not more of the sacks given up were Daltons fault.

There can be a lot of growing over ten years. I will give Marvin credit for changing the culture. I'm just pissed that it took him so long to do it, or that he couldn't get it done before Carson Palmer was through with him. Now we have a young quarterback that we have to win with before he is ready to, when we could have had Palmer in his prime with a good young team around him. In the end the Bengals and Marvin have failed Palmer more than he failed them.

I don't disagree that probably more than 1/3 of the sacks given up were Dalton's fault. Dalton was very slow at times getting rid of the ball. However, how many sacks did he take in how many snaps? He is still a young man and he will still have a learning curve, as he had a year under his belt and defensive coaches learned how to defend him after the first year, second year, men involved in football way longer than Dalton made their adjustments to his tape, and now in year 3, Dalton needs to adjust to them and become the QB we need him to be.

Dalton made plenty of mistakes, but he was also very quick in getting rid of the ball most of the time, that is what a WCO is. It is not a deep passing game, it is a quick route offense. If Dalton was in the same offense as Palmer, he would be terrible. Fortunately, they are building the offense to Dalton's strengths. He will still make plenty of mistakes, but he is growing.

However, like you, I NEED to see him make those adjustments and perform better this year. I am not going to give Dalton a free pass, he still needs to earn my loyalty.

I won't dispute Dalton's weaknesses..... He absolutely must improve.

But I will also point out that there is another group (that hasn't been mentioned) that influences sacks -- The receivers.

It would help if we had more than one guy that can get separation.

Another excellent point. We had no one opposite Green. Sanu was becoming that guy, but after 4 games it all ended. Jones struggled last year, hopefully he is ready to take that next step. Hawkins is a situational WR. Whalen is not bad as a final WR in the depth chart, but 6th receives in the depth chart is not going to help take pressure off your number one.

I am really hoping Gresham takes Eifert coming here as a challenge and turns his crap around. Gresham, Eifert and Gio along with a healthy Sanu and an improved Jones should help this offense. It is a work in progress and we have not seen one game with any of them yet. So we will see.

Proof? First time I've heard this assertion.
