I used to like McCown but I stopped listening to him in the last couple of years. His attitude towards the game of soccer really ticked me off. In my opinion, he's turned into the stereotypical bitter old man.

Dowbiggin today: ... i threw the bold in there

Bob McCown has always done things his way. It’s part of the rogue image that has made the FAN 590 host a radio fixture for over three decades in Toronto. McCown’s delights in (semi-seriously) blasting away on International Women’s day about women athletes not being sexy enough. (Prompting a CBC Radio panel on sexism in sports media).

Or saying, as he did last Friday, that Sidney Crosby’s family is counselling him to retire. Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson bristled after McCown floated the story on his Primetime Sports show. “It's irresponsible,” Brisson told Sportsnet.ca (sister company of FAN 590). “This report [on Crosby] is baseless. At no time has retirement ever been discussed.”

In an interview with Usual Suspects. McCown admitted that he hadn’t called Crosby himself to verify the story. “I don’t have to contact Sid,” McCown said. “What’s he going to say?” While he declined to identify his source, McCown says he was comfortable with his story. “You weigh these things, the impact, what it’s going to be. { WILL I GET A RATINGS BUMP? } And I was comfortable with the legitimacy of it. I have no motivation to make this up. It’s impossible to suggest they’d have absolute knowledge of every conversation going on in the family.”

When pressed on giving Crosby a chance to reply, McCown said that was just “journalism school stuff.” He added he has no axe to grind with Crosby’s camp. “I like Brisson a lot. He’s always been very front and centre with me.” Needless to say “journalism schools” will not be using McCown’s smash-and-grab method as a teaching tool any time soon.

Not a huge Sid fan but I can understand why his folks might have said something like that. I could also understand why he could choose to walk away.

What if another concussion makes him like Savard who for years could not go out in the sun. No game is worth that. No amount of money.

Thanks for the link jstew, never knew that Ludzig suffered with Parkinson's disease, but I like that he is looking to help fellow NHL players both health-wise and financially.

The article is telling the truth. Crosby's parents were not talking about their son, though. They were talking about Sydney Corgi.

All rep proceeds should go to Honus.

That should be the official mascot of the NHL, what a great pic!
