Bobcat wants his name in the news

Bob McCown on Fan590 in Toronto just said he has heard Sidney Crosby’s family is trying to convince him to retire from the game.

Telling him he has accomplished everything in the game and don’t want him to risk any more injuries.

added 3:48pm, via Darren Dregger tweets,

Crosby’s agent responds to rumours. “Sidney’s parents have been extremely encouraging and supportive during this recovery period.”

Brisson tells TSN…“They (parents) will not feed any negative pulse to such a passionate mind.”

I hate irresponsible journalism.

That's all I have to say about this.

I might be torn apart for this but while I hope his parents do not feel that way and I hope he doesnt retire; can you blame them if they felt that way? He has accomplished a great amount, more than most players ever do.

If there was disappointment in the way his injury was diagnosed and with the way it was handled by the league I could understand trepidation about them wanting him to return. Concussions are a big problem now and if they, like some others, do not feel like the league is doing enough to protect its players I can see them not wanting him to return. This was obviously a major concussion, in the current NHL what are the odd if he plays for another 10 years that he never gets another one? When you factor in the possible links between repeat concussions and cognitive ability and depression I can see why they would worry.

Also if the journalist is making this up or greatly exaggerating it then he should be caned.

The article is telling the truth. Crosby's parents were not talking about their son, though. They were talking about Sydney Corgi.

All rep proceeds should go to Honus.

Ok, so how many games has Crosby missed now? 25-30 i am going to guess? David Booth missed 45 games after the Richards hit. Just because he is still out does not mean, he is dying, a vegetable, retiring etc...

My point is Booth missed quite a bit of time and came back fine. But we weren't inundated with baseless reports, speculation, rumors and all of this other horseshit we do with Sid. Gee, i wonder why???:deadhorse:

Hey, he has done what he came to do. He has a Cup and the Gold. Now go back to Nova Scotia, you'll get in the HOF in 4 years, and mount those infamous lips over your fireplace mantle. :)

Old Mrs Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
To fetch her poor dog a bone.
When she bent over,
Corgi took over
And gave her a bone of his own.

Dowbiggin today: ... i threw the bold in there

Bob McCown has always done things his way. It’s part of the rogue image that has made the FAN 590 host a radio fixture for over three decades in Toronto. McCown’s delights in (semi-seriously) blasting away on International Women’s day about women athletes not being sexy enough. (Prompting a CBC Radio panel on sexism in sports media).

Or saying, as he did last Friday, that Sidney Crosby’s family is counselling him to retire. Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson bristled after McCown floated the story on his Primetime Sports show. “It's irresponsible,” Brisson told Sportsnet.ca (sister company of FAN 590). “This report [on Crosby] is baseless. At no time has retirement ever been discussed.”

In an interview with Usual Suspects. McCown admitted that he hadn’t called Crosby himself to verify the story. “I don’t have to contact Sid,” McCown said. “What’s he going to say?” While he declined to identify his source, McCown says he was comfortable with his story. “You weigh these things, the impact, what it’s going to be. { WILL I GET A RATINGS BUMP? } And I was comfortable with the legitimacy of it. I have no motivation to make this up. It’s impossible to suggest they’d have absolute knowledge of every conversation going on in the family.”

When pressed on giving Crosby a chance to reply, McCown said that was just “journalism school stuff.” He added he has no axe to grind with Crosby’s camp. “I like Brisson a lot. He’s always been very front and centre with me.” Needless to say “journalism schools” will not be using McCown’s smash-and-grab method as a teaching tool any time soon.
