I think he was given the option to leave or coach and he wisely took the job. If he brings one ounce of the heart he showed when getting beat up on a weekly basis he'll do the younglings lots of good in the AHL. I still give the guy credit for even making it to the NHL no easy task...cheers Riley!

There are 3 guys on the Phantoms who are older than he is. That's gotta to awkward at first. But hey, if he can take a punch like Berube, maybe he can run a PK like him too.

frees up 500K in cap space, and trust me, that 500K will go a long way when it comes time to fit giroux, carter, leino and zherdev under the cap next june.

not to mention it makes our enforcer role clearer and makes it easier for a phantom to take cotes spot as one of our reserves. shelly and lappy are now our full time enforcers, as well as carbomb.

our extra forward will end up being shelly or powe.

I hope so. My brother died from complications from MS and anyone involved in doing fund raisers for this cause is Okay in my book.

As soon as Shelley was signed I said from day one that this made Cote, Asham and possibly Carcillo expendable on this team. I hope Carcillo can take his game up another notch and be there for tough guy back up duty plus a lot more. I love that they can now employ more skill guys in the back up roles due to this....whether you like Shelley or not you have to admit this makes the team better overall.
