To be fair, everybody and their brother has questioned Dalton's arm strength, so this isn't exactly new.

This isn't anything new. It's also less important in the WC to have an extremely strong arm. Montona was thought to have a below average arm, and did just fine.

If Dalton were going to be asked to throw it 40 times a game, I would be worried. He's not.

Are you guys suggesting that these writers take minor details and try to turn them into big stories in the offseason? No way!

Bengals organization has reservations about Andy Dalton | ProFootballTalk

Funniest thing about the article is that Cosell cites sources in the Bengals organization. Who are the sources? The team has coaches and the Brown family - That's it.

Dalton has also gained 7.5 pounds of upper body strength in the offseason to hopefully improve that. Dalton admitted himself his long ball was not nearly as good as he wanted it to be, so he concentrated on upper body strength in the offseason to hopefully improve that. It is a concern, and somethign we are all aware of, however, at least Dalton is aware of it too and at least trying to improve in that area.

We'll be drafting a QB in the first round in 2015. You can take that to the bank.

It's a legit question imho.......I'm not quite in the Kramer camp, but I'm closer to there than to the people who think we have our franchise quarterback........

He had a great rookie season, but some of us question how much upside he has......he's good for now, but I don't think we should stop looking around.....

I'm not going to start wringing my hands in worry.
these media folks have nothing to write about right now, the draft is done and there won't be any games for months, every other story is just made up drama.

Gruden? Or folks in Gruden's 'camp?' Gruden has a ton to gain by media mentions of Dalton's limitations. He was already given a ton of credit last season for the handling of the offense. If Dalton improves even more and if the offense improves, his star will shine even brighter. If Dalton fails this season, Gruden (or his people) can point to the limitations of his quarterback. It's really in his best interest for the media to have a negative opinion of Dalton.

That said, if Gruden were simply chasing the money or a different job, it seems he could have done it this past year.... There were opportunities.

It sounds like Mike Brown propaganda so he can give Dalton an embarassingly low contract offer at the end of the yr..

but with the new salary cap floor there's no longer an advantage to it.. another theory out the window

I agree with the assessment to an extent, but they knew all of this before they drafted him with a premium draft pick..

it'd be like Weeden playing lights out as a rookie, and the Browns brass complaining that he's too old after the season is over

Agreed.... There was a reason why he wasn't a top 10 pick. But clearly the guy has some skills you value in a qb - He seems smart, he seems to understand defense and he's figured out his best option is to throw it up to AJ. I'd take him over a lot of the other bums in the league.

The problem is that more often than not AJ has to wait or come back to the ball. I'd take Dalton over maybe 4-5 other starters. Dalton is sub-par and will need to be replaced in a few years time.

Never hurts to keep looking around for a chance at a better QB.

This is more about timing than arm-strength. Dalton will learn to get the ball out there sooner, and thus AJ can run under the ball.
