Huuummm... Kyle has had a rough year, and the future looks bleak for improvement. Hoping for stability.

We have NO replacement for Kyle.
I'm just frustrated with his salary/performance!

Thoughts.

But a valid point and one a lot on here have brought up. I wanted to deal him last month for pitching but hitters values were way down, his value was way down, and Valencia was our only legit option at 3B.

Valid? yes, but Seager by himself isn't the reason this team is the way it is. If you replace Seager we still have the same problems. I haven't ever been a huge Seager fan or a Seager hater. I just think he is what he is. What he is doing this season is exactly what I expect from him every season. Is his $20 million next season worth the numbers he puts up? Probably not, at least in my opinion. For me its difficult to put third base on the least needs right now, especially with this "win now" crap this management is force feeding us.

Player wise? I agree. Money wise? It does give M's options if they can unload the money. I hate looking at all moves that way, but unfortunately it is the way it works.

It gets really complicated when you are moving a player to save money and spend it elsewhere. It is easier to do when you have a farm system that can produce good players and pay them league minimum. Mariners don't have that or anywhere close to that. We say this all the time, if the price is right, then trade him. Pretty much nobody on the roster I wouldn't trade if we got the right price.

Seager is having a down year by his career standards, but he is coming off of a career year in which he hit 30 HRs and knocked in almost 100 RBIs.

Seager's career 162 game average is 24 HRs, 84 RBIs and a triple slash line of .265/.333/.446
This year Seager is on pace for 23 HRs, 82 RBIs and a triple slash line of .254/.324/.438

Using last year as a baseline makes his performance this year look disappointing, but he is still very, very close to his career norms. Additionally, he is still only 29 so I'm unsure that this could be an indication of a downturn in his career.

No downturn just overvalued. He makes way too much for this team, he is a slug on the bases, and puts up most his numbers in 3 months. Not the cause of our problems, but based on payroll not a big answer to our future either. Open up the payroll to $200M and we can move on with him.

I see what you're saying, relative to the contract he is not a great deal. But I feel like the team does have bigger issues to address at this point. Especially considering there isn't some star 3B prospect waiting in the wings right now. If the Mariners were to move Seager, it would just create another gaping hole in the roster.

Regarding his base running, you're completely right. I don't know if it's just me, but he looks a lot slower this year compared to even last year. He additionally looks a bit bulkier without displaying any added power, although I could just be imagining things.

Valencia .262 62 RBI's 464 PA's
Seager .254 68 RBI's 538 PA's

You could re-sign Valencia for half the price. Just one suggestion.

My wife and I have been saying that since the start of the season. His ass got a lot bigger and looks like an anchor when he runs.

I'm hoping it comes out that he's been battling an injury. His range is decreasing and his power is too. People will blame this year on pitching injuries but the truth is Seagar and Cano are killing this team more then anything. If they were having similar seasons to last year Ms have at least 5 more wins right now.

100% agree and my point from the beginning is that the injured pitchers weren't that good to start with other than Paxton who you can't expect to pitch more than 60% of the season. Can't excuse what was never there.

The 4 guys that are hurt all had that risk going in. Granted all 4 getting hurt was unlikely but still the chance was there. This offense is built around Cano and Seagar and can't function without them. I mean Zunino has arguably had a better season offensively then those 2. Sad but probably true.

Nope! Leave him right where is, here in Seattle and playing third....

Is he over paid? Yep but what professional player can you name that isn't?
This team's problem is pitching, plain and simple. They were hoping Felix would find his youth, Paxton would break the injury jinx and Kuma would pitch way out of his norm, it was a roll of the dice and they lost....

I will try and explain this again. Team 'X' has $150M to spend, After players contracts are up they are left with $140M payroll. They can try and trade for a pitcher but have no assets to get one. They can't buy a pitcher for $10M that is any better than the junk they already have. So that leaves subtracting contracts to free up payroll. Can't trade Cano. Can't trade King. Cruz is only 1 year of payroll relief if traded. That leaves Seager and his $20M price tag as the only option to get what they need.

Yes, increasing payroll would be the best way, but if you have followed the M's for more than 10 minutes you know that has never happened in their history nor did it happen this off season when it should have. He has been no better than Valencia which is not great for a guy making $20M coming up.

He gave us a couple of good years, but time to move his contract on. My 2 cents.

I don't think anyone can blame Seager, but if I were a betting man I'd bet he won't be on the opening day roster next year.

Well on the bright side, every time I've noticed something minute like that, it seems you've noticed it too. Was wondering if that was just in my head or not.
