there will be one top 5 offense in the superbowl this year

seatle 1 panthers 2 3 cincy 4 saints , 5 49ers

all those teams are playoff teams

and i do not base my expectations of haslett on last year alone shark i dont buy the excuse that he had bad talent on defense for 17 freaking years shark . sell that to some one else i dont want to hear about the high flying rams and steelers offenses crap either he stinks period and you wont change my opinion period

Now you know how I felt about Jason Campbell. :)

But i will say this, dependent on how we deal with FA, I expect our defense to be better than it has the past four years. See I dont care what he did 12 years ago. Because i have seen here in DC, when he has the talent Haslett can field a good defense.

i dont know what you have seen shark but i have seen historically bad defenses under his watch here in DC

late 20's and early 30 's defenses stink

if he had , had his players prepared on game day , if he taught tackling , if they didnt bust coverages routinely , if he used kerrigan and Rak better if they communicated better then perhaps i would believe you . those are all on coaching

I have seen a coach forced to use players who wouldnt be backups on other teams as starters for the past four years in critical spots while we tried to prop up an offense that could move the ball between the 20's but failed to score more often than not. I have seen consistently the worst starting safety tandem in the league year after year which is why we see Rak and Kerrigan drop into coverage more often than ANY other 3-4 OLBs in the league. I dont expect a top ten defense every year. because we havent been that type of team since Gibbs left the second time. But I do expect if you give him the talent, Haslett can field a defense that will do enough to ot leave your offense short. He has always run a bend but dont break defense. they generally tend to give up yards, but he has also run a defense that gets alot of turn overs and sacks..... if he has the talent to pull it off. He hasnt had the talent to be a shutdown defense here in DC, and he also hasnt had the talent to get alot of turn overs and sacks either. So lets see what happens if he gets the kind of players he needs finally. I dont expect we will hold teams to 250 yards per game. But if the offense can actually score and avoid giving up the ball, I think our defense will be good enough. Unless we brought in a defensive ball control coach, I dont expect us to have a top ten defense.

history says haslett has had talent before and couldnt get it done haslett will give you at best an avg defense . most of the time its in the 20-30's

so as its stands the offense will have to pick it up because the defense is going to give up 25-30 points a game

right now i see us at 5-11 to 6-10

Seriously? You are predicting 6 wins without even seeing who we get in FA or in the draft or without even understanding what Gruden is really going to do? Cmon, Dad, you're taking this Haz thing too far.

the words the should scream out at you are RIGHT NOW

now do i have to go over what the phrase RIGHT NOW means ? is this another WE includes ME thing ?

RIght now implies that there could be a change , such as a draft , or free agency

so for me to break it down to you it means that with the roster we have , without any changes and the coaches we have in place at this point in time in history i say we have a 5 to 6 win team

so far in my humble opinion he is about 50/50 in his coaching hires forrester , burney and haslett being on the questionable side of the ledger and the rest i feel are decent choices

A 5-11 record would suggest there wasn't much sense in firing Shanahan.

right now we are looking at that . after the draft and FA it could be higher . right now , so far i believe we are at 50% effective coaching staff

i dont get some of you . we keep an o/line coach for a team most of you say is mediocre at best and think its a great move

we keep a DC for one of the worst defenses in the NFL (30 pts per game allowed ) and you think that is a great move

we keep a d/line coach who has given us avg on the d/line at best and you say its a great move

we were 3-13 and our 3 biggest weak spots we keep the coaches ?

so at this point i dont see the coaching improvement we need to increase our record much

but we have FA and the draft still to come so perhaps we can get the talent to increase the win total some more

Flip side. We were 3-11 with an offense that was top ten in yards. Yet you were screaming that the coaches responsible for that needed to be fired. Had we kept Shanahan, I would have been fine firing Haslett and the entire defensive staff.

But its the move of a spoiled petulant five year old to fire the entire staff. And it would have been a waste of the final two years of our "franchise" QBs rookie deal to boot. You wanted shanahan gone, I said all along the cost of firing shanahan might be keeping Haslett. Funny how that worked out.

i wanted them all fired shark .and was willing to pay the price for that if there was a price to pay

numerous teams have fired entire staffs and have gone on to do well to include every team in todays championship games

And just as many more have fired entire staffs only to turn around and do it again 3-4 years later. The Skins included.

and your point is what ? you rather stick with the known putrid then risk some new blood ?

in the end if either side fails we are still at the same place 3-4 years from now

i say take the chance you say stick with the status quo

I would rather see the team make smart moves and build instead of firing the entire coaching staff just to make some fans feel better. And I think the odds are we get better by actually building on what has worked instead of saying well any one could do better. And my point is, for every KC or Philly, there is an Oakland, Washington or Buffalo that changes entire coaching staffs only to rinse and repeat four years later. I can accept a middle of the road defense if it allows us to actually build on the offense. What I dont want is a total overhaul just to say well we changed.

it has nothing to do with making fans feel better . it has everything to do with proven performance assign that crap to some one else not me

i have given you the numbers and the reasoning

seatle makes my point , they get a quick TO deep in their own territory .

the seatle defense rises up and holds it to a FG

a haslett coached defense gives up the TD on a blown coverage then runs to the sideline and blames the offense

wash rinse and repeat

Seattle has the talent to do that. We dont. Or do you really think our defense is as talented as the Sea Hawks??

I call Bullshit. When you have Reed Doughty, who for years has been known to be a coverage liability, starting... how do you say thats a coaching issue?? And Im actually a fan of Doughty. But I know he is a coverage liability.

any coverage that puts reed doughty on andre johnson is a coaching error got nothing to do with reed doughty's talent

having both Rak and kerrigan in coverage on a 3rd and long and then not holding the team on 3rd down is a coaching error not a talent issue

not putting players in the best position to make plays is a coaching error not a talent issue

having your hole defense look lost like they did in week one is a coaching error despite watching 70 films on kelly , not a talent issue

having a defense full of lousy tacklers that take poor anlges is a coaching error not a talent issue using the right technique and being beat physically is a talent issue

not having your players communicate with each other properly is a coaching error not a talent issue

having players make undisciplined penalties at key times is a coaching issue not a talent issue

call BS all you want but i have seen this routinely during the haslett years

the 49ers again prove my point

they give up a huge play and hold them to a FG

a haslett coached defense would take several poor angles, miss a 3 tackles, and give up the score after a 15 yds personal foul penalty after the original big play because they lack discipline
