My opinion, CJ hurt himself immensely in the playoffs. I'd offer him 5 years at $12M per and if he doesn't want it, see ya. As for Pujols, he was rumored to want 10/$300M. NEVER going to get that. Can't give a guy $30M a year. I'd rather take $30M a year and resign Elvis, Josh, Holland, Harry, and Nap. You could get them all for $30M a year.

and he isn't worth 20M but a offer of 5 years, 60-70M will probably get him

Are you talking CJ or Pujols here? Because Pujols is going to get at least $25M from someone. Just hope it isn't Texas.

I think Pujols and Fielder get massive contracts, Ortiz gets the 3rd, and the rest are all had for very reasonable if not bargain prices.

I hope we make a reasonable offer to Ortiz, just kick the tires...and then go get Carlos Pena.

Where would you be looking for Ortiz to play?

i was talking CJ.

i think Pujols would be a terrific addition to the team but St. Louis had already offered him 9 years and slightly over 200M and he rejected it. he wants to beat ARod's 10 years, 275M contract and as much as i would like to see the Rangers add him i now think he's way out of our range.

Fielder will expect to get close to what Pujols gets so i suspect that we'll see neither signed until late into the off-season while they wait each other out.

Ortiz has been used as a DH because he's a liability at 1st and a lot of people on here have been complaining about MY being a liability so do we want another?

Casey Kotchman is the best fielding 1st baseman available so he could be a good option.

Unless you are talking about Young, we all ready have a LH hitting 1st baseman.

and Moreland is an adequate 1st baseman but Kotchman was the best fielding 1st baseman in the MLB & showed, at least this last season, a much better stroke than Moreland at the plate. some, including myself, have suggested Pujols (R) or Fielder (L) but realistically neither is a logical choice.

one question has been answered:

The Rangers exercised their club option on righty Colby Lewis, tweets Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The $3.25MM option was an easy choice over the $250K buyout, as Lewis is clearly worth keeping and he'd have earned more in arbitration.

Lewis, 32, has given the Rangers 401 1/3 innings of 4.06 ball since returning from Japan on a free agent contract. He's added another 50 innings with a 2.34 ERA in the postseason.

Looking at Kotchman's stats it looks like he found that stroke in his 12th major league season which may make it a little suspect. Not sure how this guy would be a upgrade over Moreland.

How about we ask the Yankees about Tex after they sign Puljos or Fielder? :thumb:

I think he meant position wise

I know, but we don't have one. I'd like to see an offer just to see if players are starting to show interest in coming here without a massive overpayment. So, just kick the tires.

Is Kotchman a FA? I can't find him on the 2012 FA list that I have been using.

I don't know. I just assumed he was since his name was brought up.

my bad, i thought i read that he was but he's not on the list.

Well it is weird. Cots contracts list shows him as being on a one year minor league contract, but nothing about him being a FA. So he might be, I can't figure it out.

on Kotchman i did find this:

The Rays are unlikely to make quick decisions on whether to re-sign free agents Johnny Damon and first baseman Casey Kotchman, writes Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times. Tampa will look to improve its offense, according to Topkin, but that won't be easy without detracting from its deep well of pitching talent, which it won't want to do. Andrew Friedman will likely do most of his roster shuffling via trade, writes Topkin.
