So does anyone know how the formula works?

Is it based off of contract signed or production?

We have lost Cousins, Breeland, and Ryan Grant to pretty hefty contracts
We have only signed Paul Richardson

It appears we are going to also lose Long, Trent Murphy, Junior Galette, and Zach Brown

Does losing non homegrown players such as Galette and Brown factor into the compensatory equation?
And, if I am not mistaken if we sign players who were cut such as DRC, Wilkerson (who already signed), etc. it does not count towards the equation.

Right now if the Skins are not too active in free agency they could really clean up and garner like 3 3rd round picks and some later picks.

Losing KC should get us a 3rd round pick. The P. Richardson signing should have nothing to do with it. As far as the others, im not sure. Im still laughing at the R. Grant contract.

You've got it about right. It's about how many qualifying FAs a team loses vs. how many it signs and how much they signed for. Signing a player who was cut doesn't count. Signing bottom of the roster guys to near-minimum deals doesn't count either. However, a team can only receive 3 comp picks.

Right now, ya'll have signed just 1 qualifying FA in Richardson. You've lost 4: Cousins, Breeland, Grant and Long. Richardson cancels out Breeland or Grant, so no comp for that one. That means 3 comp picks as of now.

Cousins will get you a 3rd. Breeland/Grant is likely a 5th rounder. I'm just guessing at Long's contract with the jets, but I think he'll end up getting you a 7th. If Brown signs elsewhere for more than Long, Long's comp could disappear and be replaced with Brown's higher comp pick.

If the Skins FO plays its cards right, they're in store for 3 comp picks in the 2019 draft.

Does it compound at all? Say Longs comp pick is worth a 7th and Will Comptons is worth a 7th could it become a 6th?

Or Brown gets a 4th and Long 6th, Compton 6th could that consolidate and push comp pick down to a 3?

But we are not done in FA. What if we sign Sheldon Richardson? That should knock out a comp pick.

No. It's a pick per player. No compounding.

However, there is a seldom scene quirk in the comp rules that allows for what's called a "net value loss" comp. A team lost say, 3 FAs and signed 3 lesser FAs. Even though they didn't lose more FAs than they gained, in the past, the league has awarded a 7th rd comp to the team for the "net value lost"--every such pick ever awarded has been a 7th.

Yep. Just as Paul Richardson knocked out one comp for, say, Grant, signing Sheldon Richardson woudl knock out another comp (maybe Breeland). However, signing a guy that's been cut by another team, like Suh, doesn't count.

Interesting... I have a feeling Trent Murphy is going to sign a fairly large contract with 49ers

So skins could easily have a 3,4,5 comp picks next season

According to multiple sources if skins as of today skins will have 3,,5,5,6 7,7,7 in comp picks next year

Sadly, no. A team can only receive 4 comp picks per year. And the Skins are in line to get 4.

Lost: Cousins, Breeland, Grant, Murphy, Long, Paul
Signed: Richardson

You still could lose Brown, Pryor, etc. but you'll only get comps for the 4 highest losses. Ricahrdson cancels out either Breeland or Grant. So, unless the Skins sign a mid or high level FA, the Skins will get a comps for Cousins,Breeland/Grant, Murphy and Long.
