MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, is currently looking into the recent trade between the Marlins and BlueJays which has caused a lot of buzz. Bud Selig has the authority to veto the trade under the "best interest of the game" clause. I am not certain if he is permitted to veto this trade strictly because of its trade imbalance or not. One of the reasons why there is so much buzz is because the citizens of Miami-Dade county are paying for 80% of the projected $634 million it will cost and now the Marilins owner has traded away a bunch of their top players who earn a lot. So the question of ethics is there.
My question is: Does Roger Goodell have the authority to veto trades in the NFL strictly based on player imbalance? Does anyone know anything about the commissioner powers in the NFL. Where to find such rules.
